Kathryn is an extraordinary hooman from Houston, Texas, who has devoted her life to saving helpless puppies and those with special needs, making sure they always receive the love and care they deserve.
Just the other day, she got a call about two newborn brothers who were in desperate need of urgent help.
The determined rescuer immediately agreed, but this mission wasn’t nearly as simple as it sounded. The puppies were two hours away, and they needed to be brought to her care as quickly as possible if they were going to survive.
After carefully thinking through her options, Kathryn came up with a way to finally bring the two brothers home.
Getting There

Because Kathryn was already looking after several tiny pups, she couldn’t leave them alone in order to make the long drive herself. So, she tried something unusual and decided to call an Uber.
But that plan quickly ran into obstacles.
Multiple drivers initially accepted her order, but once they realized they would be transporting two puppies for a two hour ride in the middle of the night, they backed out and canceled the trip.
Fortunately, one remarkable driver stepped up, accepting the ride and driving four full hours so the brothers could finally reach safety and have a second chance at life.

As soon as the puppies, later named Sal and Arti, were placed in Kathryn’s arms, she gave them the medication they needed and let them rest comfortably.
For a brief moment, everything seemed fine until the next morning revealed something shocking.
Sudden Complications
Even though both brothers looked as though they were doing well, Kathryn noticed that Arti’s little face had begun to swell.
Alarmed, she rushed him straight to the emergency clinic. There, the vets discovered the unbelievable cause. Arti’s body was missing essential proteins, which triggered his head to swell to twice its size overnight.

Arti was admitted into critical care for several days while Kathryn went back home to care for Sal and the other pups in her rescue.
Without his brother by his side, Sal grew agitated, constantly pacing and crying. Luckily, Kathryn’s own dogs, Etta and Finn, stepped in as babysitters, keeping Sal company and reassuring him that Arti would come back soon.
Meanwhile, Arti slowly began to respond to treatment.
“Arti’s swelling went completely away after 3 days of a plasma drip. He was really struggling for a bit and I thought we were close to losing him. These are the strongest little boys ever. Sal opened his eyes today and we are waiting for Arti to follow,” Kathryn wrote in a Facebook post.

After a few days, Arti was well enough to come home. The moment Sal saw his brother walk through the door, he cried tears of joy.
Finally reunited, the puppies could relax and do what little ones do best: sleep, eat, and grow side by side. Within just a few short weeks, they both doubled their size and were ready to move into a foster home.

In their foster home, Sal and Arti continued to thrive, overcoming every challenge together and blossoming into strong, happy, and affectionate boys.
It didn’t take long before a loving family stepped forward, ready to give the brothers the forever home they truly deserved.
Thanks to Kathryn, the veterinarians, and one heroic Uber driver who refused to cancel the trip, these two little pups were given the chance to live the happy, healthy lives they were always meant to have.
