Texas Puppy’s First Ten Days Of Care Became A Fight For Every Small Victory

Texas Puppy’s First Ten Days Of Care Became A Fight For Every Small Victory

Tika was still only a puppy when her body seemed to have almost nothing left to give. She was painfully thin, weakened by hunger, and covered in injuries after being attacked by another animal.

The most serious wounds were on her face. She lay completely still, as if all the fear, pain, and exhaustion had pushed hope far away from her tiny world.

Then a Border Patrol agent came across her. In that moment, one choice gave Tika the chance her fragile little life was still waiting for.

A Life Saved In The Final Moments

The agent’s first look at Tika was devastating. The left side of her face had been torn open, leaving her with a severe infection and unbearable pain.

“Sweet, TIKA was rescued by a Border Patrol agent in her last minutes on earth…she was agonizing,” shared The Buddy Foundation, located in Eagle Pass, Texas, in a Facebook post.

No one knew exactly what had happened to her, but her injuries spoke volumes.

Acting quickly, the agent rushed her to a nearby Texas shelter. His decision gave Tika a chance she wouldn’t have had otherwise. Had she remained outside any longer, she likely wouldn’t have survived.

“Tika is a walking miracle and we’re so glad we found her when we did. She would not have survived another day out there in the condition she was in,” her rescuers said.

Her recovery was just beginning. Tika was too weak to stand or eat and needed immediate medical attention. She was soon transferred to a veterinary clinic for intensive care.

The first ten days were critical. She was kept on IV fluids and monitored around the clock. Slowly, her body began to respond to the care.

When she finally accepted food through a syringe, it marked a turning point. That moment showed her determination to live and her strength to fight.

And fight she did.

A New Chapter For Tika

After spending days wrapped in a blanket at the shelter, Tika eventually stood on her own. That small victory meant she was ready to move into foster care.

She was welcomed by a foster mom who instantly embraced her. Tika quickly adjusted to her new environment, made animal friends, and began to thrive as the princess she was always meant to be.

She loved everything about her new life, especially the soft dog bed waiting for her.

But another challenge soon appeared. Tika was diagnosed with canine epilepsy, which causes occasional seizures. Still, she remained cheerful and never let it dim her joyful spirit.

Gratitude radiated from her.

“She’s so grateful for everyone that came together to save her little life just in time. Today she is alive and happy,” her rescuers concluded.

Her strength and affectionate nature helped her overcome every obstacle and won over her foster mom’s heart.

After several weeks in foster care, Tika was officially adopted. She now lives in a permanent home, surrounded by love and comfort.

Her painful past is behind her, and for the first time, Tika truly understands what it means to be cherished.
