One of the sweetest doggo tales comes from Shreveport, Louisiana, where an adorable Lab Retriever mix named Burreaux captured worldwide attention with nothing more than his smile!
This twelve-week-old pup was patiently waiting for his forever home in a shelter, and while doing so, he made it his mission to melt hearts by flashing every visitor a quirky, toothy grin. And it worked.
Burreaux, The Quirky Lab Retriever Mix

Burreaux’s journey began when he and his two siblings were transferred from Caddo Animal Control to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana (HSNWLA).
Courtney Wingate, the director of HSNWLA, was immediately smitten when she spotted the puppy smiling at her. That moment changed his life.
Wingate decided to take Burreaux and his siblings in to provide them with love, care, and foster support.
When he first arrived at the shelter, Burreaux was diagnosed with parvo, a dangerous disease that needed urgent treatment.
“He did have parvo then, so he received treatment and BEAT PARVO!!! We have even started teaching him how to play fetch,” wrote HSNWLA on their Facebook page.
Despite the health challenges, Burreaux never lost the joy and charm he radiated from the very first day. His playful, affectionate spirit shone through, and he quickly became a favorite among staff and visitors alike.
He’s Already Melted Countless Hearts

What made Burreaux stand out most was his smile. He didn’t just reserve it for special occasions—he shared it with anyone who showed him kindness.
Still, there was a little twist: Burreaux only flashed his dazzling grin when people used a soft, high-pitched tone with him.
“It’s like a ‘come pet me, come love me’ smile,” said Walton, one of the HSNWLA volunteers.
That smile soon became his signature move—an open invitation for cuddles, love, and connection. And of course, dog lovers everywhere couldn’t resist him.
Finding His Forever Family

It didn’t take long for Burreaux’s irresistible charm to pay off. After some time of searching, the quirky pup found his forever home.
Although it was bittersweet for the shelter team to say goodbye, their hearts were full knowing he had finally found a family who adored him just the way he was.
For the first time, Burreaux could enjoy all the love and warmth that only devoted dog parents can give. His friends at HSNWLA are certain he’ll keep smiling for the rest of his life, bringing joy to everyone he meets.
