Persistence always shows results, and there is hardly a better proof than a tiny Labrador demonstrating it firsthand.
Gracie, a four-month-old Labrador from Jupiter, Florida, had the important task of picking up her dad’s newspaper. Normally, she handled it with ease. But on Sunday, the paper was extra heavy with inserts and ads.
Despite the challenge, Gracie was determined to do her best so her dad could read the news. Her efforts paid off, and Peter Schulz captured the adorable moment on video.
A Proud Dad Watches Gracie Work Hard
Gracie never skipped her duties, and one of her favorite jobs is retrieving the newspaper left by the mailman in the front yard.
This Sunday, the paper was especially bulky with advertisements, comics, and inserts, making the task twice as difficult as usual.
When Peter called, “Gracie, the newspaper,” she dashed out immediately to where it lay at the end of the driveway.
Attempting to grab it, she realized the challenge was greater than usual. Yet, she remained undeterred, encouraged by her dad.
“Bring it here, Gracie!” Peter called cheerfully. “I know, it’s a big one today, it’s Sunday’s paper.”
Gracie paused briefly on the grass, regrouped, and charged at the paper again, as if thinking: “You won’t get away with this so easy!”
When she still struggled, Peter stepped in.
“Here, let’s do this,” Peter said, grabbing the edge of the plastic. “Here, grab it like this, here, pull it.”
But, her thinking was that “Only losers choose the easy way”, Gracie tried again herself and finally succeeded.
She nearly stumbled several times under the paper’s weight. But, what to do? No one is perfect.
In the end, the task was completed, leaving her and her dad beaming with pride.
Inspired By Her Big Dog Family
Peter’s home has always hosted dogs. At the time, Gracie lived with her mom, Maddie, and grandma, Dakota, both veterans at newspaper duty.
Now it was Gracie’s turn. Despite the difficulties, her determination and ambition to emulate the bigger dogs helped her succeed.
The video showing Gracie striving to beat the older Labradors to the paper each morning captures her drive perfectly. She consistently reached the newspaper first, delighting her dad.
Today, Gracie is a grown Labrador, having learned much, and serves as an example for other little Labs aspiring to follow her path.
Sundays are no longer a challenge for Gracie, thanks to her persistence and repeated practice. She knows it best herself.
