Abandonment leaves deep wounds that many dogs never fully heal from. Left in unsafe places, these loyal animals have only one instinct, to keep going and stay alive.
Alejandro was one of those dogs.
When he was heartlessly left behind in a random orchard, he rushed to find a hiding place. But instead of shelter with warmth and safety, the only thing he discovered was a tiny cardboard box.
Waiting In The Box
When Fresno Humane Animal Services in California first came across Alejandro, they could hardly believe the scene.
The little pup was curled up inside a cardboard box, trying to escape the rain and the dangers around him. Yet, as rescuers leaned closer, he offered the sweetest grin. It almost looked like he had been waiting patiently for kindhearted humans to finally notice him.
The team couldn’t be sure how long Alejandro had been confined to that flimsy box. But what was clear was that his survival was nothing short of remarkable.
Surrounded by coyotes and strays, he lived in constant risk of being harmed. On the day he was found, though, Alejandro seemed fairly healthy, apart from a skin problem that showed the toll of living outdoors.
“Alejandro was found abandoned in an orchard and was hiding in a cardboard box from the rain. His fur and skin were in very rough conditions,” VAC wrote on Facebook.
After gentle care, rescuers arranged for him to be moved to Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California.
During his first week there, Alejandro was timid around both people and other dogs. But soon, his true nature began to shine.
In no time, he turned into a lively little dog, always wagging his tail and full of spunk.
The painful memory of his cardboard box soon faded, replaced with playfulness and curiosity alongside his new friends.
Hearing his story, The Dodo team gave Alejandro a gift to celebrate his rescue. They brought him a soft, cozy bed to mark the end of his days in a cold box, and he was clearly thrilled.
A New Beginning With His Forever Family
Alejandro didn’t need long to win over everyone who met him. He quickly proved to be the most devoted companion.
After so much hardship early on, the time had finally come for him to step into his forever home.
“Although he did face some tough times at the beginning of his arrival, he could not wait to show his love. He enjoyed being able to hang out with his shelter friends. We are happy to say that Alejandro has found his person to share and give all his love to,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Now Alejandro flourishes with his new mom. He’s far from the frightened pup once left behind in the orchard.
Those days of rain and loneliness are gone. Today, his world is full of love, adventures, and security.
He has truly transformed, and his rescuers couldn’t be happier to see Alejandro exactly where he belongs.
