California Puppy Saved From Euthanasia Deserves A Forever Home, But Nobody’s Interested

Too many dogs like Mort wait in shelters for someone to see them and give them a chance to live a happy life. They curl up in their kennels and gaze toward the kennel door.

They watch people pass by, hoping for that moment when someone stops and picks them from the crowd. Sadly, some shelter dogs never realize their greatest dream because their time runs out.

Mort, a one-year-old shepherd mix, almost didn’t make it. He was on the euthanasia list but fortunately, rescuers stepped in and gave him another chance.

He was admitted to Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, where he has been waiting for a family to call his own.

Unfortunately, potential adopters ignore him day after day. Will anyone finally fall in love with Mort and show him what life is all about?

When Mort first arrived at the shelter, he faced a big change.

The shelter noise and the crowd made him feel stressed.

However, despite the stress and the fear, he showed the volunteers his true personality. He greeted them with pleading eyes and a wagging tail.

Everyone could tell how much Mort wanted to leave the shelter in the arms of his humans.

Jackie Gonzalez, a longtime volunteer, shared his story in a TikTok video that touched many hearts. According to Gonzalez, Mort is dog-friendly and loves to make new friends.

Mort loves exploring and playing with other dogs. It’s only then that he feels alive and free again.

Sadly, no one has offered to take him home.

Jackie says Mort can be timid when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, his true self appears. He is a loyal, affectionate pup who just wants to be loved.

“With his boundless energy and zest for life, Mort would thrive in an active home where he can run, explore, and burn off some of his playful energy,” she wrote in the caption.

He’s smart, too.

“Mort is a quick learner who picks up on training easily and gets along wonderfully with other dogs,” Jackie added.

Although he continues waiting, Mort hasn’t given up hope. He is the epitome of resilience.

When volunteers stop by, his tail still wags. When he’s taken outside, he runs like he’s been set free, soaking up every moment of happiness.

When it’s time to go back inside, Mort feels sad, but he continues believing that his time will come.

Looking Ahead

Mort’s story is still being written. He has survived what many don’t, and he’s ready to give all the love he’s been saving for his humans.

We hope that soon a wonderful family will see what a great pup Mort truly is and take him home. The pup endured so much already and he deserves to find the happiness he dreams of.
