Abandonment is one of the deepest wounds a dog can endure, but sometimes it marks the beginning of something better. That was true for Trekker.
This gentle puppy was left behind in San Diego’s Cleveland National Forest, where she managed to survive for over two weeks after being discarded by her owner.
Hungry, frightened, and constantly on alert for predators like mountain lions and coyotes, Trekker was nearing the edge of despair. But her story wasn’t finished yet.
A Lonely Figure In The Wilderness

While walking through the forest, a woman noticed a small figure in the distance. At first, she thought it was a wild animal. But as she got closer, she realized it was a dog.
Trekker sat nervously on a slope, making it impossible for the woman to reach her directly.
Determined not to leave her behind, the woman placed a feeding station nearby, hoping the pup would feel safe enough to eat. Trekker did, gratefully accepting what was likely her first real meal in days.
Wanting to do more, the woman contacted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California.
A Rescue Mission Deep In The Forest

Hall didn’t hesitate. She drove into the forest, navigating a narrow one-lane road with no cell service. None of that mattered. Her only focus was reaching Trekker.
“I couldn’t stop thinking how scared she was and how hungry she was,” Hall shared. “I honestly can’t even describe how deep in the forest she was.”
Once she arrived, Hall set a humane trap, hoping Trekker would enter quickly. But the pup was too frightened. For two days, she kept her distance.
On the third morning, Hall returned to find Trekker inside the trap, her tail wagging gently. It was as if she was saying she was ready to be safe.

Hall brought her straight to a nearby shelter, where staff scanned her for a microchip. To everyone’s surprise, Trekker had been adopted just days earlier, only to be abandoned in the forest.
Fortunately, Hall already had a plan in place.
A New Chapter Begins For Trekker

After a full veterinary exam, Trekker was placed with Sharon Kelly, a devoted foster mom. In her new home, Trekker began to flourish, revealing her resilient spirit. She showered her foster family with affection while waiting for her forever home.
“She is a miracle, a survivor, and she is rescued,” Hall wrote.

Soon, Trekker’s happy ending arrived. She was adopted by a loving family who gave her the care and affection she had been missing.
“She has found perfect love, a perfect family. She will be loved and cherished. I am just happy for her. She deserves all the love and happiness in the world. We will love you forever sweetheart,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.

Trekker adjusted immediately, bonding with her new humans and her canine sibling. Her joyful expression said it all. She knew she was finally home.
After facing fear, hunger, and abandonment, Trekker had found the safety and love she had always deserved.
