When puppies find love and a place to call home, they feel like they have found everything they need in order to be happy.
Sadly, when, for whatever reason, they lose that love and security, all canines feel like the rug was pulled from under their paws. Their hearts are broken, and confusion sets in.
Stella was in that situation and knows exactly how it feels.
She was adopted when she was a puppy, but unfortunately, her adoptive family surrendered her back to the shelter, saying that she was too much.
Stella’s heart was broken, and she didn’t know what had happened to her family and why they had renounced her.
Her Backstory
It wasn’t the first time Stella was rejected.
When she was nine weeks old, her first owners surrendered her to Longview PAWS, the non-profit organization that supports the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center located in Greg County, Texas.
At the time, her name was Rye, and she was a joyful puppy who didn’t take her owners’ rejection to heart.
She didn’t have to spend a lot of time in the shelter, and both she and her siblings got adopted.
Upon starting a new life with her family, Rye changed her name to Stella. Her new owners had other dogs and children, and Stella was convinced that everyone would have a wonderful time.
She truly believed that she had found her happily ever after.
Several months later, Stella’s dreams were crushed all of a sudden. Her adoptive family returned her to the same shelter, explaining that she was too much for them.
They admitted that Stella was sweet and loving, but that their kids and elderly dog couldn’t handle her anymore because she was too energetic.
Longing For True Love
The staff gave her love and did everything they could to help Stella heal her heart and adapt to the shelter environment.
However, as much as they tried to help her navigate through this difficult period of her life, her caregivers knew that only a loving family could mend her heart.
Stella needed someone who would understand her and accept her the way she was.
The shelter hoped that they would find the right fit for her.
The ideal match for her would be an active family who understands that she is still a puppy who needs exercise and spending time outdoors.
Sadly, Stella isn’t the only puppy who got adopted and then returned.
The Texas shelter deems that new pet owners must understand and fully prepare for adopting animals in order to reduce return rates for adopted dogs.
“By preparing ourselves for the responsibility of pet ownership, we can help reduce return rates and ensure every adoption is a lifelong success. Let’s spread awareness and advocate for these wonderful animals who just want to be loved,” Longview PAWS wrote on TikTok.
Luckily, Stella’s story has a happy ending. The lovely pup found a forever family who will give her the stability and love she needed all along.
