Spotting an animal up on a house roof is not exactly part of anyone’s normal day. So when a New Jersey resident saw something furry moving across the shingles, it immediately made them stop and stare.
At first, it could have been a cat. Maybe even a raccoon. But once the neighbor looked more carefully, the truth was much more surprising. It was a small, scruffy puppy.
The skinny little dog, who would later be named Fiddler, moved anxiously around the rooftop, almost as if he was waiting for the right person to notice him and send help.
The resident wasted no time. They took a quick photo, posted it on Facebook, and asked people to come help.
Rescuers Arrive To Save Fiddler

Thankfully, compassionate people soon came to the scene to help the stranded pup.
Although Fiddler seemed aware that he needed rescuing, the moment help arrived he grew anxious and uncertain. The rescuers spoke softly, using calm voices to reassure him until he began to relax.
Soon, he realized these were the kind souls he had been waiting for.
His frail body revealed how much he had endured. Exhausted and malnourished, his ribs were visible beneath his patchy coat.
He was taken to a local shelter already filled beyond capacity, where he was held for seven days in case someone came forward to claim him.
No one did.

Fortunately, the team at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland, New Jersey, New Jersey, stepped in to give him the second chance he so badly needed.
It didn’t take long for Fiddler’s sweet and spirited personality to shine through. The rescuers quickly saw that this little dog carried a big heart and a playful soul.
“Fiddler is pure spirit. He wants to play. To love. To live,” Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge shared in a Facebook post.
His recovery journey began with patience and care, as the team gently groomed his tangled fur and provided a thorough health check.
Fiddler’s Path To Healing

Veterinarians designed a careful feeding plan to help him gain weight safely.
Surrounded by kindness and comfort, Fiddler slowly began to understand that he was finally safe. His tail wagged more often, and his eyes lit up when greeting people.
Over time, his transformation was remarkable. He grew stronger, his coat regained its shine, and his personality blossomed.
No longer the frightened puppy stranded on a roof, Fiddler became a joyful, loving companion eager to embrace life.
“He is a typical silly puppy — tall, lanky, awkward and endlessly charming. Fiddler loves playing with other dogs, soaking up attention and bouncing around with a goofy joy that’s contagious,” a representative from the rescue told The Dodo.
Now, the last step toward his happiness is finding a forever home.
The perfect family for him would be patient, willing to continue his training, and committed to giving him the affection and security he deserves.
After all he has endured, Fiddler is ready to leave hardship behind and begin anew.
Just like his rescuers, we are all rooting for him to find the loving home he has been waiting for.
