Fievel was found on the streets of North Carolina and brought to a shelter.
The staff scanned him to check for a microchip and found out the lovely pup had owners. They immediately reached out to them, convinced that they would be happy that they had found their boy.
Sadly, Fievel’s owners weren’t excited by the news at all. They surprised the staff when they told them that they didn’t want Fievel anymore.
The pup had to forget his hopes of reuniting with his family and start looking for a second shot at life.
Fievel Finds A Foster Family
The doggo was transferred to Hope Animal Rescue in North Carolina.
The staff began looking for fosters who could open their home to him, help him decompress, and heal his broken heart.
Melissa and Erik, regular fosters at the shelter, were delighted with Fievel as soon as they saw him. They offered to foster him, and they brought him to their home.
During his first days in his foster home, Fievel was pretty nervous and sad. He kept looking around as if he were searching for someone.
Since the pup was more afraid of his foster dad, Erik, he gave him space so that he could ask for attention whenever he felt comfortable.
His foster family showed him love, and it meant the world to Fievel. Shortly afterward, he started feeling safe and getting used to his foster home.
He realized that his foster parents were good people, and he began seeking their affection. Fievel would go to Erik’s lap and ask for cuddles.
Once his foster dad snuggled with him, he became his favorite person.
Both Melissa and Erik were smitten with Fievel. He gave them so much love and followed them everywhere. The pup became a real velcro dog.
Fievel started playing with the couple’s dogs and became part of the pack.
A Dream Home
For his foster family, Fievel was the perfect dog, and they couldn’t understand why his former owners didn’t want to claim him.
Melissa deems that we can learn a lot from Fievel, who succeeded in overcoming his overwhelming fear and started his life from scratch.
“What we could learn from Fievel is to just be brave and know that the hard times were going to pass because with him, he lost everything that was familiar to him and was really scared and unsure, but he was also really brave and I think that led to him making a turnaround really quickly,” Melissa told GeoBeats Animals.
Having relearned how to be a part of the family, Fievel’s foster parents knew that he was ready to find the love of his life.
Fortunately, Fievel got his happily ever after. He met his forever mom, who fell in love with him right away.
The pup lives his best life with his forever human and cat siblings. Finally, he has the unconditional love he always dreamed of.
