When Boogie arrived at the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) in Downey, California, he immediately won over the hearts of the staff and volunteers.
At just three years old, Boogie was a sweet and affectionate dog who got along well with other pups.
Despite his gentle nature and loving personality, Boogie was heartbreakingly placed on the euthanasia list. The reason? A case of kennel cough.
With little time left, Boogie clung to the hope that someone would come to his rescue before it was too late.
A Life-Saving Rescue

As soon as the news of Boogie’s scheduled euthanasia reached shelter volunteer Ella and Fur Love Haven Rescue in Oregon, they knew they had to act fast.
To pull Boogie from the shelter, they needed a foster, and they reached out to Ava Taddeo.
Taddeo didn’t hesitate. Upon hearing that Boogie’s time was nearly up, she jumped into her car and rushed to save him.
She made it to SEAACA just two hours before Boogie was set to be euthanized.
After signing the papers, she walked him out of the shelter and into a new beginning.
From the moment Boogie climbed into her car, it was clear how safe and at ease he felt. He gazed peacefully out the window during his freedom ride, soaking in the world outside.

Taddeo was eager to give him all the love and comfort he’d been missing.
Once home, she gave him a warm bath, and soon after, Boogie drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
She took him to the vet for a full checkup. Surprisingly, it wasn’t kennel cough he had. It was pneumonia.

The vet prescribed medication, and Taddeo brought him home again, determined to nurse him back to health.
Boogie began to improve quickly. He was happy, relaxed, and enjoying life in his foster home. One of his favorite activities was joining Taddeo for beach outings.
Piecing Together His Unknown History

Curious about his background, Taddeo contacted a shelter volunteer to learn more about where Boogie had come from.
Unfortunately, there were no details available about his past.
Still, Taddeo had her own beliefs. Since Boogie showed no signs of trauma, she felt confident he had once been loved.
She also noticed how fond he was of elderly people, which led her to believe he may have belonged to an older individual or couple who had passed away, leaving Boogie with no one to care for him.

Whatever his past held, Taddeo was simply grateful he’d been given another shot at life.
And once his recovery was complete, Boogie would be ready to enjoy every moment of it.
As time passed, Taddeo realized she couldn’t imagine letting him go. She officially adopted him, giving him the forever home he deserved.

Watching Boogie heal and grow has been an incredibly meaningful experience for her.
“It’s been an absolute journey to have seen a dog that came to me on the brink and literally saving him two hours from euthanasia time to now seeing him thrive and flourish and be healthy has been the most rewarding thing I could ever ask for,“ Taddeo told GeoBeats Animals.
Boogie is now living his best life, surrounded by love, and happier than ever.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who stepped in and made it possible for Boogie to have a second chance.
