For many senior dogs, life can become really challenging. At some point, many of them stop doing the things they used to love simply because they can’t anymore.
Health is a very limiting factor in this situation, and that is just heartbreaking. This is something that just naturally happens.
It’s a much bigger problem when dogs are on their own. Sometimes, when owners can no longer financially support their dog’s medicine, they will surrender the pup.
While this is very sad, sometimes it’s the only option. This is essentially what happened to Moose, who was a senior dog with many health problems.
Moose’s Sad Situation

When Moose was first surrendered to the Downey Animal Shelter in California, he was already a senior dog with health problems, and that was a big issue.
In a shelter like this, pups like this are in a race against time to get adopted. If they don’t, then they are placed on the euthanasia list.
That was Moose’s future if he didn’t find help. Unfortunately, there are many questions regarding his surrender and not many answers.
The rescuers didn’t really know why his family abandoned him. They suspected that his growing health problems were causing a huge financial strain on them, so they had to let him go.

Moose has nubbed-down teeth, which was probably from eating rocks in order to survive. He also has severe gum disease, neglected teeth, and alopecia.
These were all big problems, and Moose only had around two to four weeks to find a home, or he would be in big trouble.
And then, all of a sudden, a volunteer named Nicole Rechtszaid decided to reach out and offer to help Moose.
Nicole Is An Amazing Foster

Since she adopted a dog for the first time, her furry companion inspired her to do more and help out pups like Moose, which is why she did so.
She started fostering dogs and it was a life-changing experience for her. There are many dogs who need help in California, but the rescues struggle to help them all, which is why some are euthanized.
That’s basically how she first encountered Moose. A friend of hers, Amanda, told her about him and she agreed to foster him. She saved his life from euthanasia just like that.
Because of her actions, this pup now got a second chance. Nicole also got more help with fostering and everything has been progressing wonderfully.

She noted that Moose is a very lovable and goofy boy who just likes to play around and take things easy. He loves napping on the couch and receiving belly rubs.
When he feels adventurous, he will explore something new every day and this just shows how Moose was still a very cheerful pup. He just needed someone who would care for him.
Hopefully, Nicole will be able to find a forever home for him soon. He really needs someone kind, and patient and I hope everything turns out great for him.
