Fievel was discovered wandering the streets of North Carolina and taken to a shelter.
The staff quickly scanned him for a microchip and were relieved to see that he did have owners. They reached out, expecting his family to be thrilled that their pup had been found.
To their shock, Fievel’s owners weren’t happy at all. Instead, they told the shelter that they no longer wanted him.
The sweet boy had to let go of the hope of going back home and begin his search for a brand-new chance at life.
Fievel Finds A Foster Family
Fievel was then transferred to Hope Animal Rescue in North Carolina. The team immediately began looking for foster parents who could give him a safe space to heal and adjust.
Melissa and Erik, long-time fosters with the shelter, were smitten the moment they saw him. They didn’t hesitate to take him in, giving him a place where he could finally feel loved again.
At first, Fievel was nervous and deeply sad in his foster home. He often looked around as if he were searching for someone familiar.
Since he seemed more wary of Erik, his foster dad gave him plenty of space and allowed Fievel to decide when he wanted attention.
With patience and love from both Melissa and Erik, Fievel slowly started to feel safe.
It wasn’t long before he began asking for affection himself. Eventually, he crawled into Erik’s lap, clearly asking for cuddles.
That moment sealed their bond. Erik quickly became his favorite person, and soon Fievel was following both fosters around everywhere.
The shy, broken-hearted dog turned into a sweet velcro pup. He even joined in playtime with the couple’s other dogs, becoming a true member of the pack.
A Dream Home
To Melissa and Erik, Fievel was the perfect companion. They couldn’t understand why his original owners didn’t want him back.
Watching him blossom, Melissa reflected on the lessons he brought into their lives.
“What we could learn from Fievel is to just be brave and know that the hard times were going to pass because with him, he lost everything that was familiar to him and was really scared and unsure, but he was also really brave and I think that led to him making a turnaround really quickly,” Melissa told GeoBeats Animals.
Once he had relearned what it meant to be part of a family, his fosters knew he was ready for his forever home.
Thankfully, that moment arrived sooner than expected. Fievel met his forever mom, who fell in love with him instantly. Now, he enjoys his best life alongside his human and his new cat siblings.
Finally, the little pup has the unconditional love he had always dreamed of.
