As someone who doesn’t know much about what it’s like to work as a rescuer, I have always wondered how some shelter staff handle tough decisions like euthanasia.
I can only imagine how heartbreaking it is, especially considering that the rescuers already tried to find a home for the animal, but it just didn’t work.
Situations like this happen all the time, and just knowing that is pretty depressing. However, a lot of shelters still do their best to announce this so they can hopefully help a dog or a cat find a foster home before euthanasia.
That’s what happened in CJ’s story. He was only a few hours away from euthanasia when something incredible happened.
CJ Is So Relieved
When Taylor Moskalski first saw a post about a dog who was about to be euthanized at a shelter in Oklahoma, she knew that she couldn’t just ignore it.
She has a habit of regularly scrolling through the images of dogs who are on euthanasia lists, and when she finds one, she tries to help in whatever way she can.
So, when she saw this senior dog’s face, she asked the shelter staff if she could foster him, but the rescuers gave her good news.
As it turns out, somebody adopted this dog at the last moment, but there was also another dog that needed help, and that was CJ.
He was almost euthanized, even though he was only 10 months old. That was just tragic. When Taylor realized that, she took him in only a few hours before his euthanasia, and she felt extremely fortunate.
After he settled into her home in Oklahoma, CJ’s whole attitude shifted. He was a lot happier and more comfortable in his kennel.
Taylor noticed that he was slowly starting to goof around when he felt more relaxed. She gave him a toy, and he was just so happy.
He’s Still Learning New Things
However, one thing that shocked her about CJ was how easily he flinched at any sudden movement. She had a suspicion that he had been abused in the past.
She had no way to confirm this, of course, but it was almost certain. This poor pup didn’t deserve such treatment, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see him react like this.
So, now she will try her best to help him feel completely at ease in her presence. He deserves to be with someone who will treat him with kindness and affection.
Because he is so curious about his surroundings and learning new things, it is going to be easy to help him get familiar with all these new experiences.
He’s still a little awkward, considering that these are all new experiences for him, even though he’s 10 months old.
Taylor hopes that it will lead to CJ having a better future if somebody decides to adopt him. While we don’t know what happened next for this sweet dog, I hope he finds a home with someone amazing.
