While walking through her St. Louis, Missouri neighborhood, a woman noticed something unusual.
A small, adorable pup was tied to a stop sign, completely alone.
Seeing no humans nearby who might belong to him, she cautiously approached, trying to figure out the situation.
Delighting In Attention
As she knelt near him, the pup lifted his leg. Instinctively, the woman offered a gentle belly rub, and the dog responded with pure joy.
While continuing to pet him, she called the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), Missouri.
Donna Lochmann, SRSL’s chief life saving officer, answered the call and immediately set out to help the little Pit Bull mix.
Upon arrival, Donna found an incredible scene. Campbell, as he would be named, was surrounded by a group of affectionate women giving him attention.
The pup was in complete bliss.
Although untied from the stop sign, Campbell still did not want to get up.
“When I got up to him, he rolled over and stuck his leg up. I thought at first that there was something wrong with it, but he truly just wanted a belly rub,” said Donna.
Respecting his wishes, they continued the belly rubs, knowing it was exactly what he wanted.
Donna and her rescue partner spent some time scratching Campbell’s belly, earning his trust to coax him into their car.
However, their plan did not work. Campbell enjoyed it so much that he simply refused to stand up.
Ultimately, Donna had to lift him carefully into her arms and carry him into the vehicle.
Campbell remained timid, unsure of the events, yet clearly enjoying the attention and affection he was receiving.
Settling Into Shelter Life
At the shelter, Campbell underwent a thorough medical checkup.
Being such a gentle and cooperative dog, the team immediately began searching for a permanent home that would provide the love and belly rubs he desired.
While waiting for his forever family, Campbell is in foster care.
He has a warm bed, ample affection, and more belly rubs than he could imagine, ensuring he feels safe and loved each day.
