What many people fail to realize is that for dogs, their owners are their whole world, and their one true love.
Tragically, some individuals break that sacred bond in the cruelest ways imaginable. Rather than taking their loyal companions to a shelter, they simply abandon them. And that’s the part that truly breaks my heart.
In a recent heartbreaking case from Southern California, a 75-pound dog learned this reality the hardest way—when his owner tossed him out of a moving car and drove off.
Left in the chaos of traffic, the poor pup was bewildered… and deeply devastated.
Alone, Confused, And Nowhere To Go
Completely disoriented, the dog began running in frantic circles on the road, unable to understand what had just happened. His trusted human had left him behind.
A local rescuer named Mary happened to be nearby. Alarmed by what she saw, she quickly contacted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, a California-based animal rescue group.
“When he first got thrown out he was so confused, running around in circles in traffic,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.
Mary tried to get close, but the dog was terrified. Despite his size, he was incredibly wary of people. Still, he stayed on the same street, right where he had been abandoned, hoping for something familiar.
Things only grew more dangerous when he attempted to cross the road. Surrounded by traffic, the frightened dog was nearly struck by an oncoming vehicle.
“He is literally 75 pounds and so big but so scared. A huge jeep with huge tires literally went over him. Thank God the jeep was so high off the ground,” Hall wrote.
Knowing time was of the essence, Hall coordinated with fellow rescuers Karla, Yamileth, and Nunez. The dedicated trio arrived later that same day, determined to help the scared pup.
With a little patience and a few tasty treats, they managed to guide him into a nearby fenced yard.
Though still visibly shaken, the dog was finally safe—and his journey to healing could begin.
The Start Of A New Chapter
The gentle giant was named Benji — and it turned out he was one lucky boy.
Once safely in the car, Benji began the first steps toward a brighter future.
For Suzette, this moment was everything. It marked the end of Benji’s suffering and the beginning of something beautiful.
“They got him into a yard and shut the gate. My heart was so happy. The fear and terror he had been through was over. And this big hunk of pure love was finally safe,” Hall said.
Thanks to his incredible rescuers, Benji will now receive the care and kindness he has always deserved. For the first time in his life, he will know what true love feels like—far from the cruelty of the streets.
He’ll remain in foster care for now, adjusting to his new surroundings, making friends, and learning to trust again.
And soon, Benji will be ready to find a forever home, one filled with joy, compassion, and endless love. He’s more than ready… and he’s more than worthy.
