Goober had no way to call out.
In the middle of a California parking lot, the small French Bulldog sat trapped inside a crate, unable to move and unable to do anything except wait.
Later, he would be given the name Goober, but in that moment he was just a hurting little dog with nowhere to go.
The pain was impossible to miss. An open wound stretched across his back, and it was clear he was suffering. Stuck behind the bars with no escape, he could only hang on and hope that someone would finally stop and see him.
That someone turned out to be Angela Adan, founder of the local rescue nonprofit Deserving Dogs, who happened to drive into the lot.
The second her eyes found the crate, she knew something was very wrong. And when Goober looked up at her through the bars, his eyes wet and full of quiet desperation, it felt like he was asking for the kindness he had been waiting for all along.
A Chance At Rescue

Angela’s heart broke when she realized how he had been left.
“You could tell that somebody just shoved him in there and left quickly,” Adan told The Dodo.
Without hesitation, she opened the crate and spoke softly to reassure him. Goober didn’t resist when she slipped the leash over his neck. Somehow, he knew this stranger was there to help.

Angela rushed him to the nearest veterinary clinic, where he was examined immediately. His wound was infected from being untreated for far too long, and he was clearly malnourished.
It appeared he had been left there intentionally, dumped without a second thought.
Angela hoped his microchip would reveal who he belonged to, but when it was scanned, it wasn’t registered to anyone. Whoever had abandoned him had made sure there were no clues left behind.
Determined to give him a fresh start, Angela took Goober home to foster him. She focused on easing his pain and helping him feel safe again.
At first, his skin was so sore that he flinched at even the gentlest touch, but Angela was patient.
Goober’s Healing Journey

With proper care, Goober began to recover, inside and out.
“It took months, but finally he started to heal,” Adan said.
His wounds closed, his fur began to regrow, and his playful spirit slowly reemerged. Once shy and hesitant, Goober started wagging his tail, cuddling with Angela, and showing affection.
His rescuer couldn’t fathom how anyone could abandon such a loving dog.
“He’s such an amazing little dog and I can’t believe someone would let him get into that condition and then just leave him outside like that,” Adan shared on Instagram.

When Goober finally regained his strength, it was time for the next chapter. Angela knew he was ready to find the forever family he deserved.
Not long after, that wish came true. A kind family met Goober and instantly fell in love with his sweet nature. They promised to cherish him for the rest of his life.
Now Goober has everything he once dreamed of: comfort, affection, and people who will never leave his side.
After everything he endured, this little Frenchie finally gets to live a life filled with love and joy.
