Sometimes people forget that dogs don’t just see us as their caretakers. To them, we’re their entire world, their closest friend, and the one they trust the most.
They become so emotionally attached that even being left alone too long can make them sad.
So imagine the heartbreak when they’re abandoned completely.
Sadly, the sweet boy in this story experienced exactly that.
Rescue On A Dangerous Road
Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, has saved countless animals, but each case still feels as heartbreaking as the first.
So when she got word about a puppy who had been abandoned on a busy freeway by his owner, she knew she couldn’t waste a second.
She called her friend Arturo for help, and together they headed out late that night to try to rescue him.
The moment they arrived, they saw how dangerous the situation was.
The freeway was packed with cars, and the little dog was terrified. A homeless man told them that ever since being left there, the pup hadn’t moved, as if he was waiting for his family to return.
Hall and Arturo realized that rushing in too quickly might spook him and send him running straight into traffic.
“I honestly could not have done this rescue by myself. And I am so thankful to Arturo for being there with me and for helping me. One wrong move and he would have run into the oncoming traffic,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
A Careful Plan To Save Him
With the situation so risky, the two rescuers knew they had to catch the pup on their first attempt.
They put together a makeshift enclosure using a mattress, wood, and some boxes they found nearby.
Slowly, they guided him inside and blocked his way with a piece of wood as he tried frantically to escape.
“After a lot of struggle and Arturo holding up the area he was trying to escape from I finally got him in my snare,” Hall wrote.
The relief they felt when the puppy was finally safe was overwhelming.
They quickly loaded him into the car and drove him straight to the vet, happy that they had given another dog a real chance at life.
A Fresh Start For Chance
Because the rescue was so tense, Hall thought of the perfect name for him.
“This wasn’t easy, his life was in our hands but we took a chance and that is why we named him Chance,” Hall wrote.
After learning about what he had gone through, the veterinary staff decided to treat Chance to a relaxing spa day. He came out looking better than ever.
Thanks to two rescuers who refused to give up, this sweet pup has the future he deserves.
