Pup From Chicago Has A Hilarious Night Routine That Will Brighten Your Day

Up until recently, I had no idea just how much dogs thrive on routine. Sure, most stick to the usual—mealtime, walk time, naptime—but every now and then, a dog develops a habit so delightfully weird, you can’t help but laugh.

I’ve seen some truly quirky canine behaviors over the years. There’s one dog in my neighborhood, for example, who sprints from one side of the street to the other whenever it’s completely empty. No clue why—but you can tell it brings him joy.

That’s the funny thing about dogs: their little quirks might not always make sense to us, but they always seem to have a purpose. And sometimes, those routines? They’re absolutely hilarious.

Take Pancake, a Chicago pup whose bedtime behavior had her owners scratching their heads at first—until it became a beloved highlight of the internet.

Pure Comedy Every Night

When Bruno and Beth first noticed Pancake’s peculiar behavior, they weren’t quite sure what to think. Pancake had been part of their family for years and was known for being a lovable mix of mellow and goofy.

She’s the kind of dog who can lounge like a pro, but also gets the zoomies out of nowhere—and that’s what makes her so much fun to be around.

Then came the surprise: Pancake developed a habit of crawling under her parents’ bed, and not just once in a while—it became part of her daily ritual.

They’re still not totally sure why she does it, but they think it might be her version of a comfort zone. She loves being close to them at all times, and crawling under the bed is her go-to nap spot.

Soon, it wasn’t just an evening thing. After breakfast, she’d make her way under the bed again for a quick snooze.

Usually, Bruno lets her rest there for a bit before gently guiding her back to her spot. Pancake isn’t thrilled about this part, but she goes along with it—reluctantly.

Why Under the Bed, Though?

After seeing Pancake pull the same move night after night, Bruno decided to film it—and of course, the video took off on TikTok. Turns out, Pancake isn’t the only one with this unusual bedtime ritual.

The comments rolled in, and people couldn’t get enough.

One user wrote: “I want her to outfit that space like a proper fort with decorative accents and a ‘no boys allowed’ sign.”

Honestly, I think Pancake would be all for that. It’s clearly more than just a hiding spot—it’s her personal sanctuary.

Another added: “I feel like I see one of these vids of Pancake every week. That’s her favorite hiding spot lol.”

After realizing how much joy Pancake’s nightly antics were bringing to others, Bruno and Beth kept sharing the clips. And yes, it’s just as funny every time.

One more commenter chimed in: “My older dog plays this game too. I had to put a ton of stuff under the bed so he can’t get deep.”

That’s certainly one way to stop the routine—but I don’t think I’d have the heart to block off a spot my dog clearly loves so much.

At the end of the day, Pancake’s under-the-bed tradition is just another example of how dogs, like us, find comfort in their routines—and sometimes, those routines are as entertaining as they are adorable.
