Connecticut Pup Found Tied To A Tree In The Woods Is Finally Safe And Searching For A Home

While walking his own dog through the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in Connecticut, a Good Samaritan was startled by strange barking coming from deeper in the woods.

Curious and concerned, he went to investigate. There, he discovered a heartbreaking sight: an abandoned five-year-old dog tied tightly to a tree by his collar.

Since the pup remained calm and gentle despite his ordeal, the man freed him and quickly brought him to Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) in South Windsor, Connecticut.

Introducing Obie

Although the collar identified him as “Kobe,” the shelter staff felt a new name would help him leave his painful past behind. They decided to call him Obie, giving him a fresh start and a new identity.

Now, Obie was ready to find a family who would finally love and treasure him as he deserved.

TRACS began posting photos of Obie on their social media pages, hoping someone would notice the sweet pup and offer him a forever home.

It didn’t take long. Adorable Obie caught the attention of countless kind-hearted people who began calling the shelter to check on him, making sure he was safe and well cared for.

“Kobe got a bath today, and as you can see he is starting to BEEF out! His eyes are almost healed, and he is learning manners and personal space. He is LOVING all the attention from every person that meets him. While he is still unsure of males, we think that will come with time,” the Connecticut shelter wrote in a Facebook update.

Obie received medication that cleared up both his eye and skin issues. He underwent a complete veterinary exam, was neutered, vaccinated, tested with blood work, and microchipped.

Looking For A New Home

Once his health stabilized, the shelter prepared him for the next step: adoption.

“Obie loves being loved on, and is learning so much from his weekly training sessions. Obie deserved to be the focus of attention and we are hopeful we can find the PERFECT home,” the shelter stated in a post.

They also explained that Obie would do best in an all-female home since he was still uncomfortable around men. He had some anxiety and was still mastering leash manners, but overall, he was eager for family life and promised to be a devoted companion.

The Truth About His Past

Meanwhile, the South Windsor Police Department released a statement. Obie’s former owner, a 26-year-old woman, had stepped forward and was arrested.

She faced charges of animal cruelty and unlawfully tethering a dog to a stationary object. Released on a $5,000 bond, she was scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.

This story serves as a powerful reminder. Never abandon an animal. If you find yourself unable to provide proper care, take your pet to a local shelter instead of leaving them alone in the woods.
