Is there a pup not worthy of love? I don’t think so! No matter how “broken” they may seem, or how many health issues they may be coping with, no dog deserves to be overlooked.
Sadly, this is far from reality when it comes to real shelter dogs. So many of them are still waiting in their tiny kennels just because people refuse to give them a chance.
Darby, a sweet five-pound boy, is one of them.
This California pup has been constantly ignored by everyone at adoption events, and the reason is beyond heartbreaking!
He Just Wants To Be Loved
When Helga Weiss, the president of Paw Squad 559, from California, received a call about a dog being overlooked in an overcrowded shelter, she immediately rushed into action.
She agreed to take this two-year-old pup into foster care so he could get a chance at happiness. But what she couldn’t understand was why Darby isn’t adoption material.
Then, she realized.
Apparently, people consistently ignored this sweet pup just because of his fused kneecaps that made him look funny and clumsy.
Even though Darby could walk and perform almost all the other activities, people just deemed him “broken.” Truly devastating!
Almost nothing really changed when Helga took him. She watched him for weeks being ignored at adoption events. People would literally avoid him and approach other dogs as he sat alone in his kennel, hoping that someone would at least pet him.
That was until this kind-hearted California volunteer decided to do something about it.
Heartbroken by Darby’s situation, she posted a TikTok video featuring Darby lying in his kennel, almost completely shut down from the world.
“At just 5 pounds, and two years old, the bestest boy waits for a forever. However because he was born with fuzed knee caps he walks funny & nobody wants him,” Helga’s video description reads.
Helga’s initial idea was to share Darby’s story with her followers and be his voice. What she didn’t know was how soon the video would spread – and change Darby’s life!
Still Waiting
Within just days, people started to reach out, inquiring about Darby’s situation.
Thanks to Helga’s video, this sweet boi’s story touched so many hearts, and now it is only a matter of time before Darby’s perfect family shows up.
“After his sad video of giving up at events went viral, Darby is now a hit! We are not kidding when we say our phones, & emails, are blowing up! Darby can’t believe how many people love him,” the California rescue shared in a Facebook post.
What Darby truly needs is someone to show him how beautiful life is. He doesn’t need special treatment, except a house without stairs or a pool. He can handle everything else perfectly!
In fact, Darby is a social butterfly who will get along with everyone, including kids. He loves to play with his stuffies and get carried around in a purse, but there really isn’t anything this resilient boi cannot do.
He loves people, outings, long cuddle sessions, and is just the sweetest lovebug. And even though he’s still without a family, there’s no doubt that his adopters are close!
“We just know his forever family is right around the corner,” the rescue concluded.
