While a pregnant stray dog was roaming the streets of Oklahoma, she hoped to escape her harsh reality and find a happy ending. She wanted to raise her puppies in a loving home where they wouldn’t have to scrounge for food.
When the soon-to-be mother was finally taken to a shelter, she believed she was one step closer to her dream. Unfortunately, the two-year-old dog was admitted to an overcrowded shelter and placed on the euthanasia list.
The dog sat on the floor of her kennel, feeling defeated and hopeless. Would anyone find kindness in their hearts and help her when she needed it the most?
Saved Just In Time

The pregnant dog, later named Mama Baskin Robbin, had always hoped for a better future but began to lose faith. She longed to escape the shelter and run free.
Sara, an experienced foster, saw a Facebook post about Mama Baskin Robbin, who was scheduled to be euthanized. It was a last-minute plea for help.
The dog’s euthanasia was set for 9 a.m., and Sara knew there was no time to waste. She teamed up with Pawsitive Tails, a dog rescue located in Kansas City.
At 8:30 a.m., just thirty minutes before the procedure, the rescue reached out to the shelter about Mama Baskin Robbin.
The rescuers hoped it wasn’t too late. Fortunately, the shelter accepted the request in time and promised to care for the dog until she could be picked up.
Mama Baskin Robbin’s Safety Secured

A kind volunteer drove over five hours one way to collect Mama Baskin Robbin.
As she sat in the back seat, her face still held a sad expression as she looked out the window, unaware she was safe.
The volunteer took the dog to Sara’s home, where she was welcomed warmly and given love and encouragement.

Sara prepared a whelping box for Mama Baskin Robbin and her soon-to-be-born puppies. The dog felt relieved and slept peacefully.
Having fostered many pregnant dogs for over ten years, Sara was well prepared to support this mother.
Welcoming The Puppies After A Long Labor

Three days later, after an eighteen-hour labor, Mama Baskin Robbin gave birth to eleven puppies named after Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors.
She was an excellent mother, caring for her pups and licking their little faces.
Surrounded by love, the puppies began to thrive.

One night, Mama Baskin Robbin frightened her foster mom by having tremors.
Sara rushed her to the vet where tests showed she was slightly anemic, which was not surprising given the long labor.
Mama Baskin Robbin started to open up and warm to Sara, even smiling. She finally realized she was safe.

She enjoyed cuddling with her puppies and showering them with affection.
Sara continues to care for Mama Baskin Robbin and her puppies. When the pups reach ten to twelve weeks old, they will be ready for adoption.
I am confident Mama Baskin Robbin and her babies will find loving families who will cherish them deeply.
