Florida Police Discover An Abandoned Suitcase And Are Stunned By What They Find

All dogs deserve a lifetime of love and safety. That’s the promise we make the moment they enter our homes.

But too many heartless owners break that promise without a second thought. They cast aside their loyal companions as if they never mattered.

This story is about six tiny puppies cruelly left behind, zipped into a suitcase and running out of time.

Thankfully, compassionate people stepped in before it was too late.

Here’s how it happened.

Whimpers From A Suitcase

When two officers from the Tampa Police Department noticed a dog running with her puppy near a local rental property, they acted quickly, catching both and bringing them to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for help.

Later that day, the same officers returned to the neighborhood to investigate further. While searching outside the vacation home, they suddenly heard faint cries.

The sound was coming from a pink suitcase lying nearby.

When they unzipped it, their hearts sank. Inside were six squirming puppies in desperate need of rescue.

The officers had no idea how the pups ended up there, but they were grateful to arrive in time.

“It’s horrifying. I don’t know why anyone would do that,” said Sherry Silk, Humane Society of Tampa Bay CEO.

After piecing the events together, the officers realized the frantic dog they’d helped earlier that day was actually the puppies’ mother.

Her panicked behavior around the neighborhood made sense: she had been desperate to lead someone to her trapped babies.

Her persistence saved their lives.

Safe At The Shelter

The puppies were rushed to the Humane Society, where they were joyfully reunited with their mother, now named Dora, and their sibling.

Snuggled against her once again, they felt comfort and relief.

While the pups settled into the nursery, Dora finally had the chance to rest.

All seven were given thorough medical exams, and staff estimated the puppies were about five weeks old.

Dora was underweight, and some of the pups carried fleas, but overall their health was surprisingly good.

As they recovered, their playful spirits blossomed. They entertained staff daily, showered with cuddles and affection.

The puppies were soon given names: Della, Daisy, Diana, Dawson, David, Diego, and Dana.

From Suitcase To Forever Homes

By the time the puppies reached eight weeks, adoption applications poured in.

The first to leave was Della, who found a loving family in Tampa, Florida. One by one, the rest followed, each welcomed into forever homes filled with care and devotion.

Seeing them thrive was a relief for everyone who had worried about their fate.

The officers who discovered them gave these puppies the second chance they deserved, and their bravery will never be forgotten.

It’s unthinkable that anyone could trap helpless puppies or any animal in a suitcase and abandon them. Imagining what might have happened without those officers is chilling.

Thankfully, this story ended with wagging tails and safe homes.

But many dogs aren’t as lucky. Intake numbers rise each year; in 2022 alone, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay cared for 14,464 animals.

If you’re considering adding a pet to your life, please visit your local shelter. There are countless dogs waiting for the moment someone finally chooses them.

Don’t let them down.
