Sweet Pittie Went Gray As She Spent 7 Years In Texas Shelter, Waiting For Someone To Take Her Home

Sweet Pittie Went Gray As She Spent 7 Years In Texas Shelter, Waiting For Someone To Take Her Home

Terri had a difficult past.

She lived through a nightmare after heartless people dumped her at a cemetery and left her to fend for herself.

The doggo was pregnant at the time, and she was worried for her puppies.

She struggled for weeks until rescuers discovered her and brought her to The Haven Animal Care Shelter in Texas.

Since the doggo went through so many hardships, she had a hard time trusting her rescuers.

Luckily, they refused to give up on her.

Life In Shelter

The shelter staff cared for Terri and tried to gain her trust and heal her broken heart.

It took several months for the doggo to relax and realize that the staff members were good people.

As time went by, Terri’s affectionate personality emerged, and she became a favorite.

Sadly, although she was the perfect pet, Terri was constantly overlooked

As years went by, her muzzle turned gray, and her dream of finding a forever home seemed unattainable.

When Joshua Kennon began working at the Texas shelter in 2020, Terri was already a senior.

As soon as he met her, she captivated his heart.

“On my first day, I walked in with Terri, and she was jumping on me, giving me kisses and being the sweetest. So from day one, I was attached to her,” Kennon told The Dodo.

Kennon and Terri bonded and loved spending time together. He became her favorite person. Whenever she was near him, Terri couldn’t contain her excitement.

Kennon loved her even more when he heard about her heartbreaking backstory.

He was sad when he watched Terri waiting in her kennel for someone to give her a chance to be happy, finally.

Kennon was certain that she got passed by because she was a black Pittie and because she needed to be the only dog in the household.

Despite having spent a long time in shelter, Terri kept believing that she would find her place under the sun.

A New Life With Her Favorite Person

Two years later, it was time for Kennon to go to Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.

He was excited about his future but kept thinking about Terri.

Since he had to stop working at the Texas shelter, that meant that he would no longer be able to see the adorable dog.

That’s when he realized that he loved her deeply and that he couldn’t stand leaving her at the shelter.

Kennon decided to adopt Terri and take her with him. The eleven-year-old dog was excited to leave the shelter and start the happiest chapter of her life with her favorite person.

Once she moved in with Kennon, Terri became even more affectionate than before. She enjoyed being around people and asking for cuddles.

“If you ever put her in a group of people, she’ll go to someone and demand pets. I feel bad, because this whole time, all she wanted was just someone to be next to,” Kennon added.

Terri enjoys her life with her dad, and she couldn’t be happier.

Kennon is hopeful that her story will encourage more people to adopt senior dogs and give them a much-needed chance.
