Kristen Lee, a devoted dog lover from Becker, Minnesota, has always felt a deep bond with animals. Her lifelong dream was not only to have a pup of her own but also to foster as many dogs in need as she could.
When she finally moved into a house with a spacious yard, Kristen saw the perfect opportunity to make that dream come true. There was only one challenge—her three-year-old Pittie, Remi, had always struggled with anxiety around other dogs.
But when the first foster puppy entered their home, Remi’s reaction stunned her.
The Unexpected Relationship With Puppies
Deep down, Kristen always knew she wanted to help abandoned and less fortunate dogs. Fostering through PJ’s Rescue in Duluth, Minnesota, seemed like the perfect way to give back.
Still, she worried about how Remi would react. He had always been affectionate with people, but something about other dogs unsettled him.
Kristen assumed Remi would be her only pup for life—until she finally decided to give fostering a try.
To her amazement, when the first foster puppy walked through the door, Remi revealed a completely different side of himself. He instantly stepped into the role of a big brother.
Remi – The Pawesomest Role Model
Instead of being territorial or anxious, Remi surprised everyone with his patience and care. He seemed to understand that the little ones needed comfort, and he gently offered it.
“He has been the best foster brother to these puppies who come to us needing a safe place and to feel wanted,” Kristen said.
Even more surprising, the puppies adored him in return. They followed his every move, copying his behavior and even picking up his quirks—like his funny way of sitting with his legs splayed to the side.
Remi became a role model, playing carefully and always showing gentleness. Over time, the pups trusted him so much they’d even stick their heads into his mouth while he yawned—something he didn’t mind one bit.
He’s The Perfect Partner
Kristen couldn’t imagine fostering without her gentle giant by her side.
“3 years ago today, I adopted my best friend. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love this big cuddly baby more than words,” Kristen wrote on Facebook.
Remi not only changed her life but also made fostering easier and more rewarding. Together, they’ve given countless puppies the safe start they deserved.
