Pitbull Left In Mississippi Forest Was Found Curled Up Like Trash

Say hello to Halo, a frail pup found deep in a Mississippi forest, curled into a tight ball and barely hanging on.

Rescuers were alerted to a supposedly aggressive Pitbull out in the woods, but what they found stunned them.

One look at Halo was enough to break their hearts. She wasn’t aggressive at all.

She was blind, malnourished, and so frail that she likely wouldn’t have made it without help.

Huddled In The Woods

Stacey and her husband, Mike, are deeply involved in rescue efforts across Mississippi.

If you’ve adopted a dog from Lucky Dog Refuge there’s a good chance Stacey helped make it happen.

Halo became one of those lucky dogs.

When they found her in the woods, Halo looked like a skeleton, all skin and bones.

With the help of some enticing food, Stacey and Mike managed to lure her out, though her condition was alarming.

From her appearance, it was obvious she had been deprived of essentials like food and shelter for a long time, maybe even years.

She was probably used for breeding and then discarded when she was no longer wanted.

“Her ears were cut with a pair of scissors, and she was most likely used for breeding. One eye is injured and damaged, the other is blind probably from an eye disease that should have been treated,” Stacey Frazier wrote in her Facebook post.

It’s horrifying to think what she endured, but thankfully, she was finally safe.

Healing And Starting Over

They named her Halo because they weren’t sure she’d survive, but she did.

Stacey took her home and immediately began treatment with antibiotics and proper nutrition.

There were a few close calls, but Halo proved to be incredibly resilient.

“We knew that her sight was definitely impaired, but we didn’t know if she was fully blind until the doctor confirmed it. We do think that she can see shadows, but she’ll just walk right into a telephone pole,” Jessica from Lucky Dog Refuge told The Dodo.

Under Stacey’s care, Halo experienced kindness for the first time. She was genuinely happy.

It took several months for her to fully recover. When she finally did, she was transferred to the rescue in Connecticut.

Halo Finds A Loving Family

Once Halo arrived at the shelter, she was joyful; a completely different dog from the one they had found.

The team soon discovered she had a weakness for ice cream and got excited every time she had one.

“She lets us know every day that she’s grateful for everything that she has now. She’s just an angel,” Jessica said.

However, one thing was still missing – a loving forever home.

But she still needed a forever home.

Then something incredible happened. Halo found the perfect family, and even better, they adopted her best friend, Layne, too. Now they live side by side.

Enjoy your new chapter, Halo. You’ve more than earned it.
