Sometimes, the smallest act of compassion can completely change a dog’s life.
For Lacy Dagerath, a dog rescuer based in Houston, Texas, that moment came when she was tagged in a social media post about a dog spotted near a busy highway.
Without hesitation, she got in her car and drove across the city late at night.
A Heartbreaking Scene

When she arrived, she found Titus curled up in the grass, lying beside his fallen companion who had been struck by a vehicle.
“I was tagged in this post last night, so at 10:45 we drove to the other side of Houston to find him. We drove past him once. He was curled up sleeping and we didn’t see him. He was close to his friend who had been hit by a car. He didn’t make it,” Lacy wrote in the post.

Titus was so severely malnourished that he couldn’t even stand. When Lacy approached, he wagged his tail softly and looked up at her with warmth, as if expressing gratitude for her presence.
She gently lifted him into her car and secured him in a seat, beginning the journey toward a new chapter.
That night, Lacy kept Titus at her home, planning to begin the search for his family the next morning.
As soon as daylight came, she and her family contacted the local humane society, distributed flyers, and scanned him for a microchip.
Despite their efforts, no one came forward.

Titus remained with Lacy for several more weeks, slowly adjusting to life among her large group of rescue dogs and cats. His gentle and playful personality quickly made him a beloved member of the household.
Even after continued searching, no one claimed him.
So Lacy and her family made a decision: they would give Titus a permanent place in their home.
A Temporary Stay Turns Into Something More

It soon became clear that Titus had found where he truly belonged.
Lacy and her family were thrilled to welcome him officially. His affectionate nature won over everyone, including the cats, and his zest for life never faded.
On her Instagram account, Lacy regularly shares videos of her rescue pack, often featuring Titus’s goofy behavior. Though he occasionally gets into mischief chewing shoes or barking a bit too much, his family wouldn’t trade him for anything.

“They are worth more than any shoe, any staircase, any sofa… I’d rescue a thousand times and go barefoot forever if I could save them all,” Lacy stated in another post.
After everything he endured, Titus now knows what it means to be loved. And Lacy is just as grateful that she was able to be the one to give him that chance.
