Feather’s most precious gift in life was her four little pups, whom she adored with all her heart. She was entirely focused on caring for them and helping them grow into happy, healthy dogs.
But one day, everything changed for Feather and her babies. Someone left them at a landfill in California, and the family was left to survive on their own.
Feather felt broken and defeated. She and her puppies had been abandoned at the worst time imaginable.
Still, the determined mama never stopped fighting. Her only goal was to keep her puppies safe, no matter the cost.
An Abandoned Dog Family Hoping For Rescue
With no food around, Feather was left with no option but to search through piles of garbage for anything that might be edible.
Even in the middle of their struggle, Feather remained a loving mother, constantly doting on her puppies.
Thankfully, someone passing by noticed a strange patch of white fur near the landfill and decided to take a closer look.
That pile turned out to be a family of stray dogs. The person who found them knew just who to contact. They reached out to Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, and asked her to help.
When Hall saw the photos of the dogs living in the debris, she was crushed.
She was especially touched by how Feather curled herself around her babies to shield them from the cold.
“She did everything to protect them. They would cuddle together to get warm,” Suzette Hall wrote on Facebook.
Hall asked her volunteers, Karla and Yamy Nuñez, to go and retrieve the little family.
As they were on their way, another organization, All Dogs LA stepped in to watch over the dogs.
“I did not want them to end up in the wrong hands. And I am so thankful to [All Dogs LA] for getting over there to protect them until help could arrive,” Hall added.
Finally Getting The Chance To Start Over
When Karla and Nuñez got to the site, they tried to carefully lure the dogs into their vehicle.
But the frightened mama and her pups hid under the trash, too scared to come out or be approached.
The volunteers stayed patient, refusing to give up. In time, they were able to gently gather Feather and her babies and load them into their car.
Feather looked visibly relieved once they were all safely inside. She wagged her tail and smiled as the volunteers spoke to her.
They brought the little family to the vet for a full checkup.
The dogs were suffering from roundworms, hookworms, and flea infestations. It was clear they were uncomfortable and likely in pain.
Feather’s belly was large, and at first, it seemed she might be pregnant again. But after being examined, it was found that she had a sizable umbilical hernia.
Once the dogs began treatment, they slowly started to feel much better.
Feather could finally breathe easier, knowing her puppies were safe and she could care for them in peace.
She and her four pups, Lychee, Pho, Nieve, and Daikon are expected to head to a foster home soon, where they’ll be surrounded with love.
While their future hasn’t been written yet, everyone hopes that this brave, devoted dog family will each find a forever home.
