Usually, when we wake up and prepare for our day, we don’t expect to become heroes.
One day, a Good Samaritan working on a property in Philadelphia thought it would be just a normal day.
While working, he noticed a trash bag moving. He rushed over, tore it open, and saw something that shocked him completely.
The Startling Discovery

Inside the bag, the man found a white and tan Pittie in terrible condition.
The pup’s body was stiff, unable to move his head or paws.
The heartbroken man gently lifted him onto a piece of cardboard and covered him with a blanket to keep him warm.
Once the dog was settled, he called local authorities to report the situation.
While waiting, he offered the sweet pup some food, hoping he would eat a little.

The Pennsylvania SPCA quickly responded and headed straight to the location.
When they arrived, they wasted no time loading the dog, later named Codi, into their vehicle and took him to their care center.
The vets were stunned by Codi’s condition.
“What had happened to this poor soul? Why had he been discarded like trash?” Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a Facebook post.
It didn’t take long for the vets to discover that Codi couldn’t stand on his own paws. They ran multiple tests and ensured he had plenty of fresh water and food.
They began gently stretching and massaging his limbs to avoid frightening him.
After some time, Codi was able to stand and even took his first cautious steps.
Seeing those first steps brought tears to his rescuers. They knew this meant that, one day, Codi could live a normal life with loving humans. What they didn’t expect was how soon that day would come.
The Pennsylvania SPCA shared Codi’s story on social media and local news, searching for a home. A caring family saw him and instantly fell in love. Only one month after being found paralyzed inside a trash bag, Codi was adopted into his forever home!

“The odds may have seemed against him, but he never gave up and last week, it all paid off when he found his forever home!” Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a Facebook post about Codi’s adoption.
The staff was overjoyed.
Codi’s determination and rapid recovery brought smiles to everyone. They will always remember his resilience and courage.
“His recovery was pretty remarkable. And though he’s still a little wobbly, he’s been adopted and is living the best life!” Gillian Kocher, Pennsylvania SPCA director of public relations, told The Dodo.
Codi left his past behind and is now enjoying the life every dog dreams of with a family who loves him just as he is.

Final Thoughts
While it’s wonderful that Codi found his happily ever after, it breaks my heart that he was abandoned in such a cruel way.
I know sometimes people can no longer care for their dogs, but abandoning them on the streets is never the answer.
That is why shelters exist.
I am sure if Codi’s previous owners had surrendered him to a local shelter, his recovery would have been faster and healthier.
Being separated from their humans is difficult for dogs, but love and care from shelter staff can help them heal and understand it’s not their fault.
So if, for any reason, you can no longer care for your pup, please don’t abandon them.
Instead, take them to your local shelter and give them a second chance—they deserve it.
