Dogs are full of little surprises. Some suddenly change the way they bark, others insist on sleeping in the oddest positions, and a few develop quirky obsessions with toys.
But not many surprise their families by growing way bigger than expected.
Well, that’s exactly what happened to one Frenchie who grew so large that his owners couldn’t believe their eyes. They were so stunned that they eventually ordered a DNA test just to figure out what was going on.
A Much Bigger Pup Than Expected

When an Arizona couple adopted a sweet French Bulldog puppy, they thought they were bringing home a compact companion. Frenchies usually weigh between 16 and 28 pounds when fully grown, so they assumed their little guy would stay small.
But their pup, Apollo, had other plans.

As the months went by, Apollo just kept growing — and growing. By the time he was only seven months old, he tipped the scale at a jaw-dropping 75 pounds.
To say his family was shocked would be an understatement.
Curious to see if anyone else would believe their story, his parents turned to TikTok to share just how enormous their “little” Frenchie had become. Naturally, people were blown away.
The DNA Test Results
Of course, Apollo’s family fully embraced their big boy’s uniqueness. Still, they couldn’t help but wonder how a supposed French Bulldog got so large.
So, they decided to do a DNA test.

When the results came back, everything suddenly made sense. Apollo turned out to be 53% French Bulldog and 37% English Bulldog.
The test also revealed small percentages of other breeds: 4% American Pit Terrier, 2% Boston Terrier, and 4% American Staffordshire Terrier. No wonder he was so much larger than the average Frenchie — he was a true mix of several sturdy breeds.

Their videos featuring Apollo quickly filled with comments from stunned viewers.
“That is a huge French Bulldog! I’ve never seen one quite that large,” one user wrote.
Another person cut right to the point:
“The cutest thing ever!”
Some even thought Apollo’s unique blend was a blessing for his health:
“I think this mix was a good one. His airways look good and he still has the aesthetic of a French bulldog… He is also a 100% good boy but those tests always leave that off.”
A Happy Ending For Apollo
Despite the surprise of raising a 75-pound “Frenchie,” Apollo’s family wouldn’t change a thing about him. His size might not be what they expected, but it just means there’s more of him to love.
In the end, the DNA test solved the mystery, but it didn’t change what really mattered: Apollo is part of the family, and his parents adore him exactly as he is.
After all, sometimes the best surprises come in big, lovable packages.
