California Owner Uses Second DNA Test Just To Clear Up Dog’s Heritage And Stop Drama

Here’s the truth: mixed-breed dogs spark debates wherever they go. Right?

You know what I’m talking about: strangers squint, tilt their heads, and launch into guessing games as though every wagging tail must be decoded. Sure, DNA tests were supposed to end the mystery, but sometimes they only invite more opinions.

Allie, a dog owner from Southern California, knows this feeling all too well. In fact, the curiosity about her dog, Lydia, soon turned into frustration as she drew constant arguments about her heritage.

Tired of explaining, Allie, who already took one DNA test, decided to put the debate to rest once and for all!

The Results Not Everyone Expected

Aren’t dog DNA tests supposed to be fun? “Not really,” is what Allie would probably say.

“I did wisdom panel when I first got her and tired of people saying “no no no, that’s wrong” when I share her DNA results, I sent in an embark a couple weeks ago to soothe my irritation with these strangers. I’ll update with both results when I get the new ones – should be any day now,” Allie wrote in the Reddit post that went viral.

People see Lydia’s spotted coat and elongated body and immediately go straight to Dalmatian and Dachshund breeds. But are they right?

No!

The second DNA test Allie took showed the same thing: Lydia is mostly a Yorkshire Terrier and a Chihuahua.

She also has some Miniature Pinscher, Poodle, Pomeranian, and Shih Tzu in her bloodline. But she definitely isn’t a Dachie-Dalmatian mix.

Who could’ve guessed?

The post from the California owner seemed to spark particular debate. Under the post, people left various comments, including the funny ones.

“She’s a DIY Dalmatian dachshund,” one commenter joked.

“She looks really dachshund-something to me. Apparently not at all though wow,” another added.

She Is Perfect

DNA results aside, Lydia is a true queen of her home. Allie describes her as adventurous and a dog who thrives outdoors.

She definitely loves the California setting, but Allie is really looking forward to introducing Lydia to snow, too.

“My girl loves the beach and the desert, hoping to introduce her to snow this winter! We don’t get it where we live, so I need to plan a weekend trip to the mountains. I have high hopes she’ll like it more than the pool,” Allie said in the comments.

Aside from her outdoor adventures, Lydia has proven to be over the moon about other canines. She loves other dogs, and she enjoys the company of people as well.

“She loves other dogs. She steals socks. She loves to snuggle and burrow underneath blankets. She’s sweet as pie, and sometimes a little shy, which we’re working on. And her zoomies are wild,” Allie added.

One thing is for sure: Lydia’s DNA definitely doesn’t define who she truly is. But maybe that’s the point. DNA can tell you where a dog comes from, but never who they are.

In Lydia’s case, she’s already answered that question: she’s perfect!
