When it comes to adopting a dog, breed often plays a big role in people’s decision-making.
In fact, for many potential pet parents, the breed is a non-negotiable part of the search. I’ll admit—I’m no different. I’ve always gravitated toward German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Labradors.
That said, I’d never turn away a dog who truly needed help. And Kailah Pink felt the same way—especially when it came to Dalmatians. She had always dreamed of having one of her own.
That dream came true when she stumbled upon a Craigslist listing for a Dalmatian, and without hesitation, she decided to adopt her.
A Bigger Surprise Than Expected

When Pink saw the listing for a Dalmatian named Bobbie, she drove over an hour to pick her up.
Once they brought Bobbie home to her new life in California, Pink was excited to welcome her into the family. She had done her research and had a good idea of what to expect from the breed.
One thing she was counting on was their high energy—and Bobbie didn’t disappoint. But during one playful day in the yard, something unexpected happened.
Bobbie accidentally swallowed a bee while playing outside, and her new mom immediately sprang into action.

Pink rushed Bobbie to a local vet in California, thinking the incident might require immediate care. But once the vet began examining her, it turned out that the bee incident wasn’t the main issue.
In fact, it barely scratched the surface.
Bobbie was diagnosed with giardia—a bacterial infection she had picked up from contaminated water. This condition can lead to long-term health problems if left untreated, so the vet started her on medication right away.
More Than Just A Dalmatian

That emergency vet visit ended up costing Pink $800. But unfortunately, the expenses didn’t stop there.
Soon after, Bobbie was also diagnosed with a broken toe that needed care. She was spayed as well, but complications followed—she burst her stitches and had to return for additional treatment.
Due to her sensitive health, Bobbie now requires a very specific diet. She eats chicken and quail eggs, lamb, chicken, salmon, duck, and various vegetables.
She also has allergies to certain meats, like beef and turkey, which caused her to get sick whenever she tried them in the past.

All of this comes at an added weekly cost, but for Pink, it was never about the money. When tallying it all up, she estimated she’s spent over $10,000 on Bobbie’s veterinary bills and care.
She later shared Bobbie’s story on TikTok, where it resonated with many people and warmed hearts all over.
Despite everything, Pink wouldn’t change a thing. She adores Bobbie and says she’d do it all again without hesitation. Bobbie is more than just a dog to her—she’s family.
While life hasn’t always been easy for Bobbie, she hit the jackpot with a mom who loves her deeply and takes care of her no matter what.
