Have you ever been deceived by your dog’s appearance into thinking that they belong to a certain breed only to find out that it was not the case?
Well, these things happen. Sometimes, people just have a hard time recognizing mixed breeds and it’s understandable, as there are so many of them.
Other times, it’s truly an incredible deception because dogs that look like a certain breed can be something else entirely. This has happened quite a few times.
This owner from Texas, for example, thought he had found a stray dog, so he took her thinking she was a West Highland White Terrier, but the truth was far different.
Well, What Is He?
After first finding Zelda, it was right after a hurricane had passed. The poor pup was lost and scared, so a kind man decided to give her shelter.
He took her to a vet to scan for a microchip, only to be surprised that nobody actually owned her. Zelda was a stray dog.
So, the man decided to take her in, but he was still confused about her breed. Judging by her appearance, he thought that she was a Westie.
I mean, she does look like one, but the owner from Texas wanted to be sure, so he did a DNA test on her and the results were quite shocking.
As it turned out, she is not a Westie, not even close. She was actually 50% schnauzer, and the rest of her mix was from the mountain cur breed, a bit of Golden Retriever, and Supermutt.
This was quite a shocking revelation considering she looks exactly like a West Highland White Terrier, but her behavior also says otherwise.

The Texas owner posted this story on Reddit where it gained attention and so many people had also been confused by the DNA results, so they shared their thoughts.
One person commented: “Welp, should we ever run out of Westies we now know the recipe to make more from scratch. What an adorable little deceiver!”
Well, now that we have the recipe, it’s time to save it in storage and be ready to use it in case something like this happens.
Another person said: “This sub needs a Deceivers Hall of Fame, and I nominate your Westie deceiver as one of the first members to be inducted into that hall of fame.”
Yeah, I feel like this is one of the big deceptions that is worthy of the hall of fame, and I am glad to see that so many people were also baffled by these results.
Lastly, somebody commented: “It’s so rare to be this shocked, WOW. Totally unexpected. What a unique cutie!!”
These reactions just keep coming. Pretty much everyone on the internet had some kind of a guess as to what the dog could be, but nobody really expected this.
It’s interesting to see how even people who are familiar with breeds didn’t guess this dog’s DNA results correctly.
Nevertheless, none of that matters to Zelda. She is just happy to have a home with someone special and her new life has already begun.
