Dogs are truly incredible.
They don’t just form bonds with other canines and humans. They can even become besties with cats, hamsters, domestic animals…you name it!
And if that isn’t amazing enough, some doggos even find their closest companions in birds. Truly amazing!
Take Meeko, an Oregon Border Collie, for example. When his momma recently rescued an injured baby crow, little did she know that Meeko would become the bird’s personal protector — and friend!
Now, the two share an unbreakable bond and can’t imagine life without each other!
An Unexpected Friendship

One morning, Autumn Buck from Oregon woke up to a shocking surprise in her yard. Two baby crows that had fallen out of the nest were lying on the ground. Sadly, one of them didn’t make it, and the other one could barely stand.
“One morning I found a baby crow that hadn’t made it… but nearby in the bushes was Russ. He was weak, scared, and couldn’t barely stand. His parents were close, but they wouldn’t come down to help him. I noticed the bottom of the nest had completely fallen out,” Buck shared on TikTok.
She quickly scooped up the bird and built a nest of her own.

Before long, the baby crow, later named Russell, found himself in a new cozy home with food, water, and even a little pond.
Buck took care of Russell over the next few weeks. She regularly fed him and made sure he was protected from predators. Little did she know that “the protection” part was already taken care of — by her Border Collie Meeko.

Meeko instantly befriended Russell and made sure he felt safe and comfy in his new home. He sniffed him, lay next to him, and even allowed Russell to climb on him.
Soon enough, the two became best friends. And Russell, who finally became strong enough to fly again, chose to stay in the family!
Russell Became Family
Initially thinking Russell would go back to his family upon recovery, Buck witnessed a truly heartwarming moment. One day, she went out on her porch, only to see Meeko and Russell playing fetch with a birthday cake toy!
From that day on, their fetching game became a regular activity!

It turns out, this little baby crow has already found a family and felt comfy enough to stay.
Even though he would fly off to a nearby tree for the night, Russell would come back every morning and play with his bestie.
“He learned to fly, he sleeps in the trees now, and he has a whole crow life of his own. But every day, he still comes home to play fetch with Meeko, hang out on the porch, or even knock on the window when he’s ready to play,” the Oregon owner added.

Meeko, on the other hand, couldn’t be happier!
As gentle as possible with his feathery friend, he’s all about spending time with Russell. Even when he lands on Buck’s lap and enjoys gentle strokes, Russell makes sure he’s right beside him, genuinely enjoying his presence.
It’s safe to say that Russell has officially become a member of the family. And he doesn’t intend to leave any time soon!
“Russ didn’t just survive—he became part of our family,” Buck concluded in the post.
