Dogs are known for their ability to guilt-trip their owners. They have no shame in using our emotions to their advantage, knowing we’ll likely fall for it every time.
When they see us getting upset on their behalf, they often seize the opportunity to ask for more treats. And honestly, most of us would give in.
This Colorado owner noticed something strange with her dog and rushed her to the vet, only to be taken by surprise by what happened next.
The Pup Was Choking

It was just another regular evening for Sam when she was spending time with her dogs. She decided to toss some food for them to snack on. Normally, she only throws small pieces of vegetables and fruit, knowing that her dog, Nina, can’t handle large bites.
But this time, Nina grabbed the bigger piece of fruit intended for the other dog, and Sam immediately knew something wasn’t right.
Her senior dog started to choke, prompting Sam to rush her to a veterinary clinic in Colorado. While driving to the vet, Sam’s sister tried to help by loosening Nina’s breathing, which seemed to ease the situation.

Upon arriving at the clinic, the veterinarians took over and quickly resolved the immediate issue. However, they discovered that Nina had swollen lymph nodes and would need further tests.
After the vet visit, Nina was allowed to go home until the test results came in.
As soon as she returned, Nina noticed how worried her owner was and seized the opportunity to ask for more food. Sam couldn’t help but laugh at how high-spirited Nina was, despite the whole scary ordeal. It was clear the situation didn’t faze her at all.
Internet Reactions

After sharing the story of Nina’s scare on TikTok, many people responded with hilarious comments.
One person wrote, “Dog is like take me for a walk or I’ll take you on a walk.”
Given how Nina was standing, it was hard to tell her intentions, but it definitely didn’t seem like she meant well.
Another commenter shared their own experience: “Same. I drove my dog to the ER for bloating and possible GDV. It resolved when we got there and he wanted treats at the ER.”

Treats and walks. Those are the two things that always seem to matter most to dogs, no matter what else is happening. They’re always ready for a snack.
Finally, someone else commented, “Why is she standing like she’s gonna beat me up?”
Looking at Nina, it seemed like she wasn’t just asking for food. She was demanding it, and she’d go to great lengths to get it.
It’s interesting how this scary moment turned into something positive. Once again, dogs remind us to make the best of any situation, no matter how bad things seem. Perhaps we could all learn a little from their resilience.
