If there is one thing that I always love reading, it’s rescue stories that have a happy ending. The stories where an overlooked stray pup gets a second chance are my favorite.
There is just something wholesome in knowing that a struggling pup was able to overcome all odds after a long time and finally just live a normal life.
It really goes to show just how different our furry companions are from us. They can endure so much trauma and still recover from it.
When this sweet pup first came to a shelter in Ohio, she did not expect to stay a long time. Her rescuers believed she would find a family fast, but as time went on, things took a hard turn for her.
Most Overlooked Dog In The Shelter
Even though the Brown County Humane Society Dog Shelter tried its best to find a home for Addison when she first arrived at the shelter, it became apparent that it was not going to be easy.
They couldn’t understand why people overlooked her. She was incredibly sweet to everyone she met and she loved being around other people.
The initial thought was that it might have something to do with her fur. I mean, after all… it’s not uncommon. Black dogs get adopted less pretty much everywhere.
However, things would soon change for Addison when a kind woman came to the shelter in Ohio and decided to adopt a dog.
She told the rescuers that she was looking for a pup who was medium-sized and great with kids. They immediately knew that she was talking about a dog like Addison.
So, they introduced her to Addison and it became apparent immediately that they would get along just fine.
Right after that, the only thing left to do was finalize the adoption papers. The rescuers were so happy to finally see that she met a wonderful family who would give her the best life possible.
Addison’s Story On Facebook
Shortly after she was adopted, the Ohio rescuers posted her story on their Facebook account where it got quite a lot of attention.
The post received a lot of comments, almost all of which were positive. People were just happy to see that Addison got the love that she always deserved.
One person commented: “Awww, that’s fantastic. Sounds like the wait was for the absolutely perfect family to come along. So happy for Addison and all of you. Congratulations!”
It’s comforting to know that Addison was given this chance to live a normal life. I am glad that the stereotypes surrounding her color didn’t prevent her from finding happiness.
Another person said: “My sweetest boy ever was a black lab mix from Adams county. Never understood why he had been passed up for almost 8 months, but I’m glad he became mine!”
Yes, this is one of those things that is just truly beyond me. I can’t understand why people avoid dogs because of their fur color. Hopefully, that will change in the future.
Lastly, somebody commented: “We adopted a black dog and she is the sweetest smartest dog we have ever owned. Everybody loves her.”
I have no doubt that Addison’s family will also be delighted with her. I am sure that she is a smart and cheerful dog who will change their lives as they also change hers.
