Ohio Couple Thought They Adopted A Husky, But A DNA Test Revealed The Truth

When adopting a dog, it is always wise to do your research and be sure of the information before signing the adoption papers.

If you are searching for a specific breed, it is especially important to take care so you don’t end up with a surprise mix.

Still, no matter the breed, one thing is always true: dogs will give us love in return, and nothing changes that.

This is exactly what an Ohio couple learned when they adopted a pup who looked very much like a Husky. But after a little curiosity and one DNA test later, they realized her story was far more surprising.

When Milly decided to bring home a second dog, she attended an adoption event in Ohio and immediately noticed a pup named Bess.

The staff explained that Bess’ entire litter had been adopted within half an hour, leaving her the only one still waiting for a family.

Without hesitation, Milly scooped her up, and from that day forward, life for both Bess and her new family completely changed.

Milly’s main reason for adopting her was simple: she wanted a companion for Ellie, her 6-year-old dog who had previously suffered abuse.

Bess was perfect for the role, but her striking looks made everyone curious. She resembled a Husky at first glance, yet something about her appearance seemed unusual. That curiosity led Milly and her partner to order a DNA test.

The results revealed that Bess was half Golden Retriever, with the rest of her DNA a mix of Husky and possibly some Border Collie as well.

Fascinated by the discovery, Milly took to Reddit to share Bess’ story. The post quickly gained attention, with many users commenting on her unique look.

One person wrote: “Super cute, I imagine she will be quite a handful when reaching her raptor phase.”

Milly admitted Bess was already heading in that direction and braced herself for the challenges ahead.

Another commenter noted: “She honestly looks like you painted a golden retriever lol. Is she a talker like a husky?”

To that, Milly responded that Bess was surprisingly quiet for a Husky mix. Howling simply wasn’t her style.

Others chimed in with excitement about following her journey.

One user commented: “Keep us updated on the personality. Beautiful dog, it will be interesting to say the least on how their distinct and very different personalities will come out.”

A Sweet Surprise

Milly herself remains curious about which traits will shine through as Bess grows older. For now, she has noticed that Bess doesn’t howl like most Huskies, but time will tell what kind of quirks she develops.

While DNA surprises can sometimes catch owners off guard, this one has only deepened the family’s love for their dog.

Bess may not be a pure Husky, but she is proving to be the sweetest addition they could have hoped for.
