Huskies have a reputation for being natural-born comedians and clever escape artists. King, a playful Husky living at an Arizona rescue, proved both to be true when he managed to break out of his kennel one night.
Instead of sneaking out of the building, King had a much better plan in mind. His “heist” quickly turned into one of the funniest nights the staff had ever seen.
The Alarm Rings At Midnight
In the middle of the night, Jodi Polanski, of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue in Tempe, Arizona, was startled awake by the sound of the shelter’s security alarm.
Motion detectors had picked up activity inside her office. At first, she feared the worst: a break-in. But when she checked the footage, she realized the intruder wasn’t a burglar at all.
It was King, the shelter Husky, staging his very own late-night adventure.
After freeing himself from his kennel, he strolled through the shelter as if he owned the place. For a moment, he even tried to free the other dogs, but when that didn’t work, he wandered straight toward the office.
Most dogs would have bolted for the exit, but not King. He knew exactly where the real treasure was kept: the staff’s snack supply.
With surprising skill, he opened the office door, pulled food from the shelves, and helped himself to a feast.
In the process, he scattered treats everywhere, turning the floor into a crunchy mess. But King didn’t mind. After all, it was his party, and no one was there to stop him.
What King didn’t realize was that his antics had already summoned backup. The Tempe Police Department was dispatched to investigate what appeared to be a break-in.
“The Tempe Police Department is called to the scene for what can only be described as the cutest arrest ever,” the LOHPR team wrote on Facebook.
Within minutes, an officer entered the shelter and found the culprit caught red-pawed, happily wagging his tail.
An Officer With A Heart Of Gold
Instead of acting nervous or guilty, King was overjoyed to have company. He greeted the officer with a wiggling body and a big smile, as if he had been waiting for a playmate all along.
The officer gently guided him back to his kennel, but then did something completely unexpected.
He stayed behind to clean up every last bit of the mess King had made, returning the office to its original state before leaving.
“This dog had some amazing skills! And one of the coolest police officers ever who went above and beyond the call of duty to clean up the mess the dog made,” the rescue wrote.
King’s little adventure became a favorite memory for everyone at the rescue. And the best news? Not long after, he was adopted into a loving home where he no longer has to escape kennels for attention or snacks.
Now, he has a whole family to adore him, a home to roam, and plenty of treats, without needing to trigger a police response.
