It takes years of experience and sharp instincts to crack difficult cases, but sometimes, the evidence speaks for itself.
When officers at the Roseville Police Department in California arrived at headquarters, they were ‘shocked’ to stumble upon an unusual scene: the “lifeless” body of a stuffed animal and a single suspect peeking from behind a wall.
To make matters even more ‘suspicious,’ the prime suspect was one of their own!
“Trying To Master His Poker Face”
The SSU Sergeant walked into the office to find an unexpected sight; a plush monkey doll completely torn apart, its stuffing scattered across the room.
While the investigation was still in its early stages, the Sergeant had a strong hunch about who might be behind this “crime.”
As he secured the area with tape, gathering what little remained of the poor toy, the number-one suspect observed from behind a wall with a suspiciously calm demeanor.
The culprit? None other than Butter, the police dog.
His motive for this “attack” remains unclear.
“Canine Butter is trying to master his poker face as our SSU Sergeant examines the ‘crime scene’ of a ‘mysteriously’ chewed-up stuffie. Butter is our #1 suspect at this time, and the motive remains a mystery,” the Department wrote on Facebook.
With a poker face that seemed to say, “Hey, what happened here?” Butter denied all wrongdoing, at least outwardly.
It was an unexpected turn of events, given that Butter is a gentle Crisis Comfort Canine with an impeccable track record.
But even the most upstanding members of the force have their slip-ups, and this one was forgiven. After all, Butter is just a dog.
Butter Is Truly A Treasure
When he’s not engaging in the occasional plush toy “incident,” Butter is a source of joy and comfort for his community. As a Crisis Comfort K9, he plays a vital role at the RPD.
He serves as both a therapy dog and a service dog, offering vital emotional support to those in need.
“Butter is an invaluable companion in promoting and enhancing mental health, offering emotional support and comfort to individuals who are experiencing stress, trauma, or a crisis,” California PD wrote.
Over time, Butter has helped countless people, becoming a trusted presence in the community. Always ready to assist, he provides comfort and support wherever it’s needed.
He responds to situations involving trauma, advocates for victims, and aids social service calls.
“Butter responds to calls with the Social Services Unit to help with traumatic instances, such as mental health, victim advocacy, or critical incident debriefings for our RPD officers. He has visited hospitals, schools, and the occasional coffee shop for a quick pup cup,” RPD concluded.
Though his schedule is often packed, Butter still finds time for a little fun. He’s affectionate, loves sharing kindness, and makes friends with everyone he meets.
Butter truly is the perfect example of a community dog.
