Kansas Mother Dog Watches Her Family Get Adopted, But She’s Left Behind With Heartache

Every dog feels heartbroken when their family abandons them forever, but mother dogs feel that pain even deeper.

They fight to find food and keep their babies fed. The mother hugged her puppies tight so that they wouldn’t feel cold.

Catlyn was in that same situation. She was abandoned in a park along with the father dog and their precious puppies.

Fortunately, Catlyn and her family were rescued and brought to a shelter. The mama dog stayed close to them, feeling hopeful about their future.

She didn’t know that she was about to experience another heartbreak.

A Family Found In A Park

When Catlyn, her puppies, and the father dog were rescued, Leavenworth Animal Control in Leavenworth, Kansas, took them under their care.

At first, the doggy family was relieved. They were finally safe and they were together.

Maria Torres, an active-duty soldier who volunteers at the shelter, noticed Catlyn right away and learned her story.

The mother dog sought comfort in her family who was her whole world.

Sadly, the mama dog experienced abandonment once again.

When families looking to adopt dogs began visiting the shelter, Catlyn watched her puppies leave one by one.

It was hard to say goodbye and the mama felt incredibly sad.  And yet, she gathered strength and remained calm because of her babies.

She was also separated from the father dog, who was transferred to a rescue and adopted quickly.

After her family was gone, Catlyn’s mood changed. She struggled to understand why everyone she loved had moved forward while she remained behind.

Torres explained that she has “not had any interest” from adopters. The shelter Catlyn was in is located in a rural area in Kansas and it had few visitors.

A Heartbreaking Wait

As time went by, being confined in the shelter began to take a toll on Catlyn. She started pacing and jumping in her kennel, struggling to adjust.

“She’s suffering from kennel stress,” Torres said in an interview.

Catlyn felt trapped and longed to break free and discover the world outside the shelter walls.

Torres does her best to help Catlyn and give her breaks, but she is the only volunteer walking dogs.

The mama dog spends most of her time waiting, looking at the kennel door, hoping someone will finally come for her and take her home.

Torres would adopt Catlyn herself if she could, but she already has five dogs at home.

However, she refuses to give up on her.

She shares her story on TikTok through @mariafortheforgotten, hoping it reaches someone who can change her life.

She describes Catlyn as a sweet and loving dog who deserves to finally see how beautiful life can be.

Torres believes Catlyn needs a peaceful home where she can relax and feel safe again. She has done well with other dogs and could thrive with slow introductions.

Catlyn has now spent months in the shelter. Although she is tired, she has not given up.

Torres continues to speak for her and share her story, and we all hope that someone will finally see Catlyn and give her a chance to finally experience happiness and true love.
