If there is one thing that always breaks my heart, it’s seeing dogs who struggle to find a loving home because of some physical disability.
They are constantly overlooked because of something they can’t control at all, and it can only negatively impact their life.
The worst part is that they can also feel depressed over their disabilities and it just makes the problem worse. The rescuers do their best to help them feel at home, but it’s not quite the same.
Something similar has happened to this sweet pup from Missouri who was born with an unfortunate condition that prevented him from finding a forever home.
Box Has An Underbite
When Box was first surrendered to a shelter called Pawportunities Animal Rescue, in Blue Springs, Missouri, his rescuers were shocked by his appearance.
The owner surrendered him because of his extreme underbite. When the rescuers asked about it, they were able to confirm that the man was a breeder.
And, it’s safe to say that his practices were cruel and unethical. He didn’t really care about the dogs… he just wanted to make a profit.
When Box started revealing his underbite, the owner knew he didn’t need the dog, so he surrendered it to the rescuers.
Even though the owner’s practices are cruel, he did at least one thing right and that was surrendering the dog instead of abandoning it. A lot of people don’t even bother to do that.
Now, at least Box may have a chance at finding a home, although it’s not going to be an easy journey for him.
There Is Still Hope For Him
The rescuers took the pup in and placed him in a kennel. They realized that this Chihuahua was really sweet despite the fact that he was mistreated his whole life.
They established that he was six years old and had no major health problems, so that is good news. Now, he just had to be patient.
Even though time in the shelter has helped a little bit, it also scared Box. He was afraid of loud noises and got tired of waiting all the time.
However, he gets happy whenever his rescuers pay him a visit. He knows they are kind people who are trying to help him. They make every day so much better for him.
Even though he is still a bit reserved with other people, he loves leaning into their hands when they try to pet him. It’s his way of saying that he is relaxed in your presence.
Despite the fact that Box’s future is uncertain, they are still holding out hope that he will find a forever home sometime soon.
He is just the sweetest Chihuahua ever and they know that someone will eventually see that and give him the chance that he deserves.
