Mini Dachshund In Florida Saved His Treats In The Least Secret Place Possible

Dogs have all kinds of systems for protecting the things they love.

Some tuck treats under furniture, some bury treasures outside, and some trust the secret power of a pillow or blanket. Then there is Rocky, a Florida Dachshund with a method that is far less mysterious.

Rocky is not a treat-right-away kind of dog.

He is picky with food, so when he gets a bone and does not feel like eating it, he saves it for later. That part makes sense.

The location is where things get funny.

Out of every possible hiding place in the house, Rocky chooses one so obvious that it becomes impossible not to laugh.

Rocky’s Idea Of Hiding Is Unlike Anything You Would Expect

Rocky is a miniature Dachshund puppy, a breed known for its strong prey instincts. Dachshunds were once bred for hunting, and even today, many still display those natural tendencies. Rocky certainly does.

Michelle Vachs and her fiancé brought Rocky home when he was just a baby. They had always wanted a dog and spent a lot of time researching breeds until settling on a miniature Dachshund. They soon found a breeder in California and instantly fell in love with Rocky’s picture.

“We looked into all the dog breeds and decided we wanted a miniature dachshund. We searched on the internet for good breeders and found one in California. We fell in love with the picture of him right away,” Michelle said in an interview.

From the beginning, Rocky filled their life with joy. He is playful, loves to dig, enjoys fetch, and happily cuddles with his humans. Michelle also describes him as a clingy pup who prefers staying close to them whenever possible.

But his treat-hiding habits quickly revealed one of his quirkiest behaviors. When Rocky receives a bone but is not hungry, he hides it. Instead of using the yard, the sofa, or any real hiding spot, he chooses the blanket directly beneath him.

“Rocky is a really picky eater and he only eats when he is hungry. At first we had to get used to it but since we now know what he likes and the schedule when he is hungry, it’s not a problem anymore… He wanted to save it (bone) for later and protect it from us so we wouldn’t take it away,” finishes Michelle.

A TikTok video captured Rocky frantically attempting to stash his bone under the blanket, convinced he had hidden it well.

While Rocky felt confident in his strategy, the hiding place was anything but secret. The bone sat right beneath him, barely covered at all.

Still, it is possible that Rocky thought this was the safest spot. After all, the blanket is his space, and maybe he believed no one would think to look right where he sleeps.

For Rocky’s safety, his family must be mindful of the bones he receives. Chicken bones, for example, are extremely hazardous because they splinter easily.

Advanced Care Animal Clinic has stated that although bones may contain beneficial minerals and help with saliva production, they are not essential and carry many risks, including tooth fractures, gum injuries, blockages, choking, and other complications.

Given that Rocky does not eat treats immediately and prefers to store them away, his cautious eating habits might actually protect him.

Rocky Wins Over TikTok With His Blanket Routine

Rocky’s family frequently posts content of their adorable Dachshund, and each video showcases more of his personality.

Their followers on both TikTok and Instagram look forward to watching his goofy behaviors, whether he is playing, hiding bones, or simply enjoying life with his family.

Michelle and Rocky also share their travel experiences online. Despite his young age, Rocky has become quite the traveler. He has flown across the ocean several times and is already familiar with the routines of airplane trips.

Through all of his adventures, Rocky remains a cheerful and relaxed companion. He adapts well to new experiences and is always ready for whatever comes next.
