Before Roo was rescued, life on the streets was nothing short of exhausting.
Each day was a struggle for survival, never knowing where she’d end up next. With no safe place to sleep, her skin condition worsened until she developed severe mange, leaving her coat patchy and scabby.
Despite everything, Roo kept pushing forward. Her luck finally turned when rescuers in North Carolina spotted her and brought her to safety at a local shelter.
A Foster Mom Steps In

When Veronica first heard Roo’s story, she knew instantly she wanted to help. She headed to the North Carolina shelter and offered to foster this sweet Pittie.
Almost immediately, Veronica noticed that Roo was different. She often crawled close to the ground, as though too timid to walk normally.
“She was actually pretty timid and shy at first. She wasn’t quite sure about making eye contact, but you could still tell that she was curious and wanted attention,” Veronica told The Dodo.
To help Roo adjust, Veronica decided to slowly ease her into family life. She carefully introduced her to Riot, the household’s other dog, but kept the first meetings short and safe.

To Veronica’s relief, Roo wagged her tail the entire time, clearly happy to see another dog. Over the next several days, the two pups began spending supervised time together outside. While the play didn’t start right away, Veronica was encouraged that Roo was beginning to relax.
Still, Roo’s condition required constant attention.
“She had mange, and it had developed to a point where her skin was really scabby. She was also really skinny,” Veronica explained.
With medicated baths every few days and a nourishing diet, Veronica was determined to help Roo heal both inside and out.
Blossoming Into A New Pup

Within a few weeks, Roo’s transformation was hard to miss. Her fur improved, her energy returned, and she was slowly shedding her shyness.
She started demanding pets and snuggles from Veronica, showing just how much she adored her foster mom. And her bond with Riot grew stronger, too. The two became frequent playmates, with Riot teaching Roo the joy of simply being a dog.
Because of her quirky way of hopping around like a kangaroo and making little noises like a rooster, Veronica laughed at how perfectly her name suited her.

All Roo really needed was a safe space, patience, and love. Once she had those, her personality blossomed into that of a sweet, affectionate pup who was ready to take on life.
When Roo’s health improved, Veronica placed her on the adoption list. Soon after, the big day came—Roo found her forever family.
“A few days ago, she went to her forever home. They love her and are a really good fit for her,” Veronica said proudly.
Although it was bittersweet to say goodbye, Veronica couldn’t be happier knowing Roo is now with people who will love and cherish her for life.
From Mange To Miracles
After everything she endured, Roo’s story is nothing short of inspiring. From a mange-covered, underweight pup with little hope to a healthy, happy dog with a loving family, her transformation proves just how powerful kindness and compassion can be.
Thanks to her amazing foster mom, Roo got a second chance at life—a chance she was always worthy of.
