I’ve come across many stories of animals landing in the most unexpected situations, and I always find myself asking how they manage to get there in the first place.
You would think instincts for self-preservation might kick in before they pull off strange stunts around the house or out on the street, but sometimes it seems like they simply don’t care.
Most of the time, our pets’ antics are silly and harmless, but rarely do they put themselves into serious danger.
This story, however, is the kind that stuns everyone, showing just how unpredictable animals can be.
A Noise From Inside The Concrete Aisle
Not too long ago, Shelby Elko and her husband made a trip to their local home improvement store in Michigan to purchase concrete.
Elko wrote in a TikTok post: “We were standing there doing the math on how much concrete we needed and heard a faint meow.”
They quickly realized the sound was coming from a wrapped stack of lava rocks.
Confused, her husband tore through the plastic covering, and what they saw left them completely shocked.
Out tumbled a tiny kitten. Thankfully, the fall was short, and he was unharmed. Her husband scooped him up immediately to check if he was okay.
Both of them were stunned by the discovery. They wondered where his mother could be, and carefully searched the rest of the bundle to ensure no other kittens were trapped inside.
Still in disbelief, the couple reached out to their local humane society in Michigan to ask what needed to be done next.
A Kitten In Need Of Help
The shelter staff explained that the kitten was no older than five days, which meant he required constant care. Elko began bottle-feeding him right away.
She gave him the name Oscar for the time being and devoted herself to his care. A short time later, Elko learned that a cat and litter of kittens had been located in the same area.
Hopeful, she went to check, but the timeline didn’t match. Oscar was too young to belong to that litter, so it became clear they weren’t actually his family.
Even so, Elko chose to keep them together. Having other kittens around would help Oscar learn how to play, bond, and grow up like a typical cat.
Though still very tiny, Oscar quickly showed himself to be affectionate and eager to socialize with his new companions.
Elko decided she would officially adopt him, marking the start of a brand-new journey filled with love and companionship.
