Nathan Martinelli, a vanlifer and traveler from California, had a lot of thrilling and unforgettable experiences, and yet there is one that surprised him to the core.
While he was hiking on the cliffs and enjoying the incredible view, Martinelli spotted a mysterious black figure staring at him from the bottom.
He looked closer and realized that it was a cow that was stranded at the bottom of the cliff. Martinelli glanced around and noticed where exactly the cow collapsed and fell.
Since the cliffside was too steep, the helpless animal couldn’t climb back up.
He looked at Martinelli as if he was begging him to help him get to safe ground.
A Challenging Rescue
The moment the giant-hearted man spotted the cow, he felt compelled to do whatever it took to bring him to safety.
Martinelli descended to the rocky shoreline and started looking for something that he could use as a tool. He found an abalone shell and started digging steps into the cliff wall.
The cow observed closely what he was doing.
Martinelli noticed how attentive he was, and when he started climbing his way up, he encouraged the cow to do the same.
“I knew if that cow didn’t want to get up, there was no way I could get him up,” Martinelli told The Dodo.
As the cow watched his hero move toward the top, he realized what he needed to do, and he carefully began to climb up the cliff.
Eventually, the cow made his way past Martinelli, who had only reached the halfway point.
As the animal proceeded, he felt more confident and started climbing faster.
Since Martinelli was under him and couldn’t guide him toward the right path, the bull went in the wrong direction.
The man was aware that his life would be in serious danger if the cow slipped.
“I was under him. I knew if he would have slipped, he would have taken me out with him,” Martinelli added.
Cow Happily Reunites With His Herd
Fortunately, the cow realized his mistake and adjusted his path. The California adventurer was nervous as the animal moved past him.
He pushed the cow toward the mountain so that he wouldn’t slide.
Martinelli’s friend who stood on the cliffside watched the whole scene unfold. She cheered the cow to continue climbing.
Thankfully, everything turned out alright. Once the cow ascended the cliff and put his hooves on solid ground, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Martinelli was happy that he was at the right place at the right time. He proudly watched the cow as he trotted through the grass in order to reunite with his herd.
The cow felt lucky because he crossed paths with a compassionate and kind human who saved him from a difficult situation.
