Tappie first caught Clay’s attention while she was digging through piles of trash near one of his job sites in North Georgia.
Some of the workers would toss food her way, and she would take it, but that was as far as she was willing to let things go. The second anyone tried to get closer, she backed away and made sure to keep plenty of space between them.
The more Clay watched her, the harder it became to ignore how scared and alone she seemed. So he started coming by more often. He brought food, kept his voice gentle, and did his best to show her that he was not there to hurt her.
Tappie accepted the meals, but trust was another story. She stayed guarded, watching him carefully from a distance and refusing to let her walls come down.
Building Trust, One Step At A Time

Clay refused to give up. He began sitting quietly on the ground, speaking softly and showing her that he meant no harm.
Day after day, Tappie crept closer, testing whether it was truly safe. Then, one afternoon, everything changed.
She cautiously approached, took a treat from his hand, and then lay down beside him.
It was a powerful moment: the first sign that she was ready to trust again.
Clay stretched out next to her, gently petting her and feeling overjoyed that she had finally let her guard down.

He knew he couldn’t leave her behind. Lifting her carefully, he placed her in his truck and drove her home to the house he shared with his fiancée, Jenny.
For the first time in a long while, Tappie relaxed. Surrounded by warmth, she finally knew what it meant to feel safe.
Discovering Her Past

It didn’t take long for Tappie’s personality to shine through.
“She opened up really quickly. Within a couple days she started cuddling with us on the bed,” Jenny told GeoBeats Animals.
A visit to the vet revealed that Tappie had a few medical issues that required medication. Although she wasn’t microchipped, the vet confirmed she had already been spayed, suggesting she once had an owner.
Determined to learn more, Jenny began searching shelter listings and community pages online. Then, she found something that made her heart sink: a photo of Tappie taken just a month before Clay had found her.

That’s when the truth became clear. Tappie had been briefly adopted but was later neglected and abandoned once again.
“She is one of the sweetest, smartest souls I’ve ever met, and it breaks my heart knowing she was once neglected,” Jenny shared on Instagram.
A Forever Home At Last

Today, Clay and Jenny can’t imagine their lives without her. Their bond with Tappie grew so deep that they decided she was meant to stay forever.
“We love Tappie. We love spending time with her and we just want her to be a part of our family,” Clay told GeoBeats Animals.
Once a frightened stray hiding in the shadows, Tappie now thrives in her North Georgia home — healthy, confident, and endlessly loved.

She even has her own Instagram and TikTok accounts, where Jenny shares glimpses of her joyful new life.
Thanks to one man’s patience and kindness, a scared pup who once avoided everyone now spends her days surrounded by love and trust.
