It doesn’t happen every day that you go to your workplace and make a shocking discovery.
However, this is exactly what happened to a utility worker in Yavapai County in Arizona.
During a routine inspection of the area, the man almost fell into a hidden hole.
Moments later, he heard desperate sounds coming from the sinkhole.
When he looked down, he was in disbelief. There was a little dog trapped at the bottom of the hole, over 10 feet below ground. He seemed hopeless and terrified.
The worker promised the dog that he would get help and immediately called Yavapai County Sheriff’s Animal Control. He told them about the situation the dog was in and asked for their assistance.
Grateful To Be Saved
As soon as Alex Quinonez, an animal control officer, was informed of a terrible situation that a dog found himself in, he sprang into action.
The utility worker was still at the property, cheering the dog and waiting for help to arrive.
Once Quinonez reached the site, he assessed the situation and borrowed a ladder from nearby.
He descended into the deep hole and met the frightened elderly Chihuahua, later named Arlo.
The doggo didn’t growl or bark. He was grateful to the officer for jumping to his aid.
Quinonez carefully took the dog in his arms.
Arlo needed time to process what was going on and needed some time to shake off his fear. While the rescuer was carrying him, he could feel that Arlo was shaking with fear.
Once Quinonez pulled him to safety, he noticed that the doggo had some minor injuries on his front paws and excessive dirt in his ears.
“The hole was over 10 feet deep, and the dog had possible injuries to his front legs but was otherwise ok,” Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The giant-hearted animal control officer drove Arlo to Yavapai Humane Society, located in Prescott, Arizona, where he received medical treatment.
Luckily, the doggo, who was estimated to be thirteen years old, was in good health. He just needed to regain his strength and recover from the incident.
Arlo Hopes To Find His Forever Humans
Since the shelter staff couldn’t find Arlo’s owner, they took him into their care, determined to help him find a forever family.
The staff gave Arlo a lot of love, and before long, he revealed his affectionate nature.
“But through all of that he has remained as sweet and cuddly as ever. Despite his age Arlo has got a lot of pep in his step and is ready to take on the day, one paw at a time,” Yavapai Humane Society posted on Facebook.
The staff also shared that Arlo was diagnosed with diabetes.
Thankfully, the dog is doing well. He is still full of life and joy, just like always. He just needs more love and care.
“Recently, however, Arlo was diagnosed with diabetes, which has brought some changes to his daily routine. This just means he will need a lot of extra love and care, but despite that his spirit is still as bright as ever,” the shelter added.
I hope that Arlo’s forever home is just around the corner. This brave and adorable doggo deserves it.
