Texas Man Finds More Than He Expected When He Hears Barks Under His Home

Imagine living in your home with no clue about what could be concealed underneath.

Then one day, faint but chilling barks echo through the floorboards, leaving you unsettled and confused.

Creepy, right?

This exact situation happened to a man in Longview, Texas. When he finally traced the source of the strange sounds, both he and the rescuers were left speechless.

The Shocking Discovery

Within hours, the Texas resident went from deeply worried to unexpectedly heroic. After hearing persistent barking rising from beneath the house, he quickly reached out to animal control. Officer Jumper was dispatched to investigate.

It did not take long before Jumper realized the noise was coming from a rock-lined well hidden directly below the floorboards.

The revelation stunned everyone present. How could such a pit exist unnoticed for so long? And more importantly, how did a dog end up inside? While trying to piece things together, Jumper called for backup.

Soon, help arrived from the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center along with the Longview Fire Department.

The teams faced a tough task: rescuing a dog stranded inside a 12-foot-deep well.

Initially, they believed the animal was unreachable and even considered pulling up the floorboards.

But then, an alternative solution emerged.

Instead of damaging the home, the rescuers built makeshift slings and carefully maneuvered the dog upward. After nearly three hours of patient effort, the Basset Hound was finally pulled to safety.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and heroic efforts of our local firefighters and animal control team, the dog was safely brought to the surface, shaken but unharmed,” the shelter shared in a Facebook post.

A Happy Turnaround

Once the rescue was complete, veterinarians performed a quick checkup. To everyone’s relief, the dog showed no injuries or health problems.

He was named Timmy, in honor of the character from “Lassie,” and brought to the shelter. Since he had no owner, Timmy became available for adoption.

One firefighter, touched by Timmy’s gentle personality, immediately stepped forward.

“Timmy is doing good and if not reclaimed, one of the firefighters will be adopting him,” Kimberly Brown-Brooks, the rescue coordinator, wrote in the comments.

Sadly, the firefighter’s cats did not get along with Timmy, so the adoption attempt had to be abandoned. Luckily, the Basset Hound soon found another family who adored him.

Now, Timmy enjoys cuddles, open yards, and plenty of adventures with his new family.

Meanwhile, the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center expressed gratitude to everyone who played a role in saving him, stressing how powerful community action can be.
“Thank you to everyone who played a part in this miraculous rescue. It’s a true reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals, and how a community comes together in times of need,” the Texas shelter concluded.
