When he first met Leonard, the little dog was terrified and deeply shaken after being rescued from a hoarding situation that had left lasting scars. Now, the bond they share is unmistakable, and Leonard has become the kind of biking companion anyone would be lucky to have beside them.
From Hoarding To A New Beginning
Leonard’s past is heartbreaking. Before Sam found him, he was one of over thirty dogs kept in a cruel hoarding situation. He lived outdoors all his life, never knowing love. Leonard also had a severe heartworm infection.
Because of this, Leonard didn’t trust anyone. He was completely shut down and rarely interacted.
Then came Sam!
The moment Sam saw Leonard in his tiny kennel, he knew they belonged together. Even though Leonard was overlooked by everyone at the shelter, Sam chose him, and it was the best choice ever.
For six months, Sam and Leonard took things slowly. Leonard completed his treatment but still struggled with trust.
He spent most time curled in corners, avoiding contact. The most he did was accept treats from Sam’s hand, slowly building trust, but that was it. One day, Sam took Leonard for a bike ride in a backpack.
Since then, it hasn’t been smooth sailing, it’s been even better!
Not only did Leonard open up, but he transformed into a new dog and became the coolest companion.
The Best Bike Riding Partner
Leonard loves his bike rides with Sam more than anything. When he puts on his special dog goggles, climbs into the backpack, and enjoys the views while biking, those moments are priceless. Leonard can’t get enough of them.
The rides also helped them make new friends and expand their social circle.

Thanks to Sam, Leonard now lives the life he always dreamed of. He’s no longer the shut-down dog and enjoys every moment with Sam.
“A little TLC, time, and lots of patience, he’s now the happiest little guy. Can’t believe how far he has come, I’m such a proud dog dad,” Sam added.
