Dogs are known for their strength, yet even the bravest can only take so much before overwhelming sadness takes hold.
Too often, people are the cause of their suffering, whether through neglect, abandonment, or mistreatment. No reason ever justifies it, and seeing the results is truly painful.
This mother dog’s story began with tragedy. After losing her entire litter to an infection, her owners abandoned her, leaving her grieving and alone.
Fortunately, rescuers soon learned of her situation and acted quickly to help.
A Rescue Team Moved By Her Sadness

When volunteers from Roadogs Southern California Dog Rescue arrived to pick up the pup, they had no idea how much heartbreak she carried.
Once they heard her story, they were crushed. This sorrowful mama, later named Santine, could not handle the loss of her puppies. She no longer trusted anyone.
Believing she needed security and gentle care, the team decided that a foster home would give her the safest chance to heal.

That is when Kelly Sayer stepped forward and offered to take her in. She hoped she could help Santine rebuild her sense of safety and learn to trust people again.
The beginning was far from easy. Santine was terrified and refused to let anyone close. She kept her distance, too frightened to allow any interaction.
She even growled whenever someone tried to approach. Watching her pull away like that broke Kelly’s heart, and she could only imagine the pain behind such fear.
A Foster Family Restores Her Happiness

Unexpectedly, it was Kelly’s son, Landon, who connected with her first. Santine showed interest in him, and a gentle bond began to grow.
Slowly, she started to relax. As days passed, her fear faded, and her behavior softened. All she truly needed was time, patience, and consistent affection.
Her change was incredible. Once withdrawn, she began wagging her tail, playing with the kids, and embracing the comfort of family life.
Her rescuers soon discovered that she was gentle not only with people but also with other dogs and even cats. That meant she could flourish in many different types of homes.

With such a loving nature, her chances of adoption in California were very promising.
Although her past held grief and hardship, Santine showed she still had a deep capacity for love.
It is not yet known whether she has been adopted, but what matters most is that she feels safe and appreciated again with her foster family. After all she went through, this mama dog truly deserves the happiest of futures.
